A few of these teams have been on pause for a week due to LAUSD protocols so for many of them this was their first games back since the holidays. I was able to attend the event and here’s a quick look at additional standouts I saw.
1. Jaden Hubbard – Fairfax 2024
Hubbard is in the mold of an elite wing scorer. I’ve seen him play a couple of times now and while his game is still a work in progress, the skills and ability is there. One of his strengths is his catch and shoot ability. He moves very well without the ball. He can shoot using off-ball screens and can shoot off DHOs. He has good fluidity and movement to get his shot off and he has a quick release. His handle is still coming along but he’s getting more comfortable with making plays.
2. Jameson Caruso – Beverly Hills 2023
Caruso is a solid point guard who is a past first player. He always keeps the ball moving. He is a good passer in the pick and roll. Very good ball-handler who can dribble under defensive pressure. He’s quick and he pushes the pace in transition. He’s strong in the halfcourt as well. Although he’s a playmaker, he takes advantage of scoring opportunities as well. He can attack off the dribble and hit the defense with a little floater in the lane.
3. Luca Camcigil – Palisades 2022
Camcigil is a forward who has guard skills. He can handle the ball on the break and in the halfcourt. He’s comfortable making plays for himself and his teammates. He can put the ball on the floor and drive and kick out to open shooters. He has good court vision and is patient reading the defense, he doesn’t force anything. He can attack the rim and finish through traffic. He’s also a good off-ball player. He makes strong cuts along the baseline to get easy scoring opportunities.
4. Deuce Walker – Washington Prep 2022
Walker is a player I’ve seen a few times now and one of the main parts of his game that always stands out to me is his defense. He’s a very good on-ball defender. He picks up at midcourt, slides his feet well and makes things difficult for opposing ball-handlers. He’s a good ball-handler himself and does a good job running the offense. He pushes the ball in transition and can draw contact and get to the free-throw line. He’s a good catch and shoot player from three as well.
