1. Amani Hansberry Amani Hansberry 6'7" | C Mount St. Joseph | 2023 State #52 Nation MD | 6’7 | Mount St. Joseph
Hanberry keeps his top spot in our rankings because of his consistent production since the start of the high school season. He’s fit in seamlessly with the No. 3 Gaels since transferring in this fall and quickly become a leader on the floor. Head coach Pat Clatchey has done a great job allowing Hansberry to display his versatility on the offensive end by becoming a threat from mid-range and even three in some scenarios. Hansberry has been a dominant rebounder and has the green light to lead the break when the opportunity presents. He has a list of offers from mid-to-high major programs that could continue to grow with sustained success in the MIAA/BCL.
2. Carlton Carrington Carlton Carrington 6'4" | CG St. Frances | 2023 State #84 Nation MD | 6’4 | St. Frances
Carrington received quite the boost in our rankings all the way to No. 2 and deservedly so. He carried over the success and production from the summer on the EYBL Circuit to St. Frances and is a major reason why they’re currently 16-2 with multiple wins over nationally ranked programs. Carrington is sound fundamentally, has a great feel for the game and can knock down jumpers with extreme efficiency. He’s settled into a nice role with the Panthers despite being stockpiled with talented guards throughout the roster. Carrington is hearing most from Pittsburgh, VCU, George Mason, George Washington and Iona. Expect more high major programs to get involved in the coming months.
3. Isaiah Coleman Isaiah Coleman 6'5" | SF Word of God | 2023 State #59 Nation NC | 6’5 | National Christian
Coleman is one of the more explosive athletes you’ll find when scanning the class nationally. He has good size for a combo guard at 6-foot-5 and can fill the scoring column up in a hurry. He’s at his best playing in space where his athleticism comes to light in his above the rim finishes, but Coleman can also be deadly from three when he sees a couple fall. He’s also a plus rebounder for his position and has shown improvement in that area since the start of the season. Continuing to knock down three’s efficiently and bringing more of a focus to the defensive end will be key moving forward. Coleman is hearing from Xavier, Maryland and Miami.
4. Mike Williams Mike Williams 6'3" | CG Bishop Walsh | 2023 State #141 Nation MD | 6’3 | Bishop Walsh
Williams made the move to Bishop Walsh recently to play in the NIBC. He’s been able to have a quick impact with his ability to break defender down off the dribble, get into the paint and finish athletically. Williams has solid size for a guard who can share ball handling duties and capable handles to provide ball security. He gets after it defensively both on and off the ball to create turnovers and get his team out in transition where he can be dangerous. Williams holds offers from LSU, Houston, Maryland, DePaul, George Mason and George Washington among others.
5. Jeannot Basima Jeannot Basima 6'3" | CG John Carroll | 2023 State #200 Nation MD | 6’4 | John Carroll
Basima got off to a rocky start to the 2021-22 season after leading John Carroll to the BCL title last season and claiming BCL Tournament MVP. He moved a couple of spots down, but may have just had the performance he needed to get back into his groove despite coming up short against Vertical Academy in the R1A Classic. The 6-foot-4 guard is the ultimate slasher who moves exceptionally well without the ball. He’s patient around the rim and utilizes pump fakes to get guys off their feet and can finish with either hand. Basima is the ultimate defender who can guard multiple positions thanks to his size and length. He needs to continue to polish his pace, decision making and jump shot before seeing his recruitment truly take off, in my opinion. He already holds offers from Howard, Siena, NJIT, Towson, Columbia, and Yale.
6. Jayden Ross Jayden Ross 6'7" | SF Long Island Lutheran | 2023 #144 Nation MD | 6’7 | St. James
Ross is one of the prospects on this list that oozes with potential. He’s grown 5+ inches since entering high school and is adjusting to his body, but it hasn’t stopped him from showcasing a dependable scoring arsenal. His length helps him around the rim at both ends and as he continues to polish his overall skill set, he has potential to see another boost in the rankings. Ross holds offers from Virginia Tech, George Mason, VCU, George Washinton, and St. Joe’s.
7. Jahnathan Lamothe Jahnathan Lamothe 6'3" | CG St. Frances | 2023 State #204 Nation MD | 6’4 | St. Frances
Lamothe is a part of the loaded group of guards at St. Frances that helps make them into the dominant team that they’ve shown. His shot making from three helps space the floor to create driving lanes for others. Lamothe has struggled in comparison the last season being consistent from deep, but has mixed in drives to the rim where he’s finished with creativity. With the three being his calling card, it’s imperative that he find his groove if St. Frances wants to be the best team they can be. Lamothe also has great feel as a defender in passing lanes and is often seen causing deflections for quick buckets. He has quite the list of offers that extends to 20 schools, but Georgetown, Ohio State and LSU are among the programs showing heavy interest.
8. Solomon Ball Solomon Ball 6'3" | CG Brewster Academy | 2023 State #106 Nation NLG | 6’4 | St. James
Ball has been the beneficiary of natural maturation over the last six months. His drastically improved athleticism is also a result of hard work in the weight room and has made him into a dynamic threat at the rim. He’s been a lone bright spot for St. James and has logged an number of games where he posts crooked scoring totals. The lefty is a capable scorer from all three levels and in the open floor can rise up head-level with the rim on dunks. Continuing to make progress as a defender and becoming more comfortable operating as a primary ball handler are things we’ll pay close attention to in the future. Ball holds seven offers in total.
9. Malik Mack Malik Mack 6'0" | PG St. John’s | 2023 State #260 Nation MD | 6’1 | St. John’s (DC)
Mack’s return since missing last season with injury has been welcomed with open arms. The 6-foot-1 southpaw has taken advantage by showcasing a smooth approach as lead guard. He’s dynamic off the dribble and understands how to create shots for himself and others. Mack also brings great energy to both ends at a position where doing so is crucial. He holds an offer from Canisius, but I’d expect more programs to be involved by the end of summer when he gets a full AAU season under his belt.
10. Cam Gillus Cam Gillus 5'10" | PG Sidwell Friends | 2023 State MD | 5’9 | Sidwell Friends
Gillus has many of the qualities that coaches seek for in their point guard. He’s a tough-nosed player who despite his size, holds his own and fights for any advantage he can get. He has a great feel for how to set his teammates up while also remaining a scoring threat himself. He probes the ball effectively in ball screens actions to help him get into the paint and break down the defense. He also has leadership qualities with his willingness to communicate at all times.
