Continue ReadingThe past week I attended two standalone games, those games were Lima Sr @ Toledo St John’s and Pickerington Central @ Gahanna. In this article I’ll be breaking down the top performers from these games.
Brent Moss Brent Moss 6'5" | SF Lima Sr | 2022 State OH , 6’5 SF Lima Sr 2022: Moss is a hidden gem from northwest Ohio who should be receiving a ton of attention from scholarship programs. Moss is a great athlete from the wing position who threw down multiple dunks in this game. Moss showed his ability to play on the perimeter with slashing attacks from the 3-point line to the paint. Moss is a very good athlete in transition and got a lot of momentum when Lima Sr went to a full-court press in the second half.
Khalil Luster Khalil Luster 5'8" | PG Lima Senior | 2022 State OH , 5’9 PG Lima Sr 2022: Luster knocked down two HUGE 3-pointers right after Toledo St John’s took a lead in crunch time to seal the victory for the Spartans. Luster has improved offensively with more confidence shooting the basketball, a necessary development for the smaller point guard. Don’t knock Luster for his height too much, because he is an absolute warrior on that end, not afraid of anybody on the opposition. I think Luster has the potential to be a stud at the Division III level and should continue to receive heavy recruiting attention with a deep playoff run. (Luster has been a key piece in multiple district championship squads)
Gavin Headings Gavin Headings 6'8" | PF Pickerington Central | 2023 State OH , 6’8 PF Pickerington Central 2023: Headings was HUGE for Pickerington Central in their upset victory on the road against Gahanna. Headings provides shooting at 6’8 and has matured a ton since the summer. It took him one season in the Pickerington Central system, but you can tell that Headings is fitting in perfectly this season and has improved in the weight room. (Something Pickerington Central athletes excel at) I’ll be interested to see Headings during the spring and summer because he has a lot of potential and should be getting looks from every regional Division II program and even some Division I programs as well.
Cameron Johnson Cameron Johnson 6'2" | SG Gahanna | 2022 State OH , 5’11 SG Gahanna 2022: Johnson helped keep Gahanna in the game for a long stretch in the second quarter with timely shooting and a couple strong takes to the basket. If you want to win big games, your role players need to step up and that’s exactly what Johnson did on Saturday. Despite the disappointing result for Gahanna, there’s some positives to be taken away from this game and Johnson’s performance might’ve been the biggest.
