Myles Montgomery, 5’10 PG Minford 2025: Montgomery is a player who has gotten a lot of buzz from southeast Ohio due to his scoring numbers as a freshman. Montgomery lived up to the scoring hype as he led his team in a blowout victory over Piketon. Montgomery is a GREAT shooter, with a repeatable stroke from long distance. I’d like to see Montgomery improve his left hand, all his moves were with his right and going to the right side. He’s one of the better athletes on the court in southeast Ohio, it won’t be that way in high level grassroots games, he needs his left hand to improve against better competition.
Tanner Holbert Tanner Holbert 5'11" | CG Logan Elm | 2023 State OH , 5’11 CG Logan Elm 2023: Holbert kept Logan Elm in the game for as long as he possibly could before they eventually fell short. Holbert works hard off the ball, running off screens to try and get open. Very limited with the ball in his hands, I wanted to see him try and take over more with his team trailing late. Regardless, Holbert is the top player in Pickaway County and should make a solid small college player.
Kaleb Schaffer Kaleb Schaffer 6'5" | PF Bishop Ready | 2023 State OH , 6’5 PF Bishop Ready 2023: Schaffer only had two first half points and I was surprised he wasn’t getting more looks against an undersized Logan Elm squad. He scored the first seven points of the second half on his way to a dominating second half scoring rampage. Schaffer’s best skill is his motor and he never stopped attacking in the second half. I expect scholarship programs to be heavily invested in Schaffer next summer and winter.
Peyton Heiss Peyton Heiss 6'3" | CG Jonathan Alder | 2024 State OH , 6’1 PG Jonathan Alder 2024: Heiss was superb against Washington Court House in a losing effort. Heiss is a money shooter and does a great job of working off the ball to try and get open. Heiss was also showing more ability to score off the dribble than when I saw him against Hilliard Davidson earlier in December. Heiss is proving his ability with consistent scoring performances in big games. I’ll be following the lefty this summer after he impressed me with the Mid Ohio Pumas 15U group last summer.
