We’ll look at five players from each area and position that coaches at all levels looking for a player should keep an eye out for. Here’s five 2022 wings in the Northern VA area of Virginia that need more love.
Matthew Gray Matthew Gray 6'7" | SF Flint Hill | 2022 State VA | 6’5” | Flint Hill
Gray is non of a number of available seniors at Flint Hill that coaches should take a look at, as he has the size and athleticism that will translate from day one at the collegiate level. He’s an explosive athlete that uses it on both ends of the floor, he’s dynamic in transition and has improved in his half court scoring ability and he’s chock full of potential moving forward.
Garrett Brennan Garrett Brennan 6'3" | CG St. Stephens & St. Agnes | 2022 State VA | 6’3” | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes
Brennan is the type of player that won’t wow you with athleticism, but he does a little bit of everything when he’s on the floor and makes his team better with his constant production. He’s a high IQ player with good instincts and feel on both ends of the floor, he can make shots from deep and can get to spots and score from multiple levels, he’s a high motor and gritty player that makes all of the hustle plays and he can make plays for others as a secondary ball handler too.
Greg Williams Greg Williams 6'4" | SF VA Academy | 2022 State VA | 6’4” | Virginia Academy
Williams is part of a duo of VA Academy wings who could prosper at multiple levels in college as he has a mix of athleticism and all-around skill set that makes him productive in a number of ways. He’s a very good shooter who can knock it down from deep off the catch and has improved in his ability to put it on the deck and create space, he can handle in transition where he’s a good finisher at the rim and he is a good defender who likes the challenge of guarding the other team’s best perimeter player and is very good in the press as well.
Tazir Smith Tazir Smith 6'3" | SF Virginia Academy | 2022 State VA | 6’3” | Virginia Academy
Smith is one of the most underrated players in all of Northern VA, as he has the size and athleticism to play on the wing but he also has the game and feel of a guard who can make others on his team better with his playmaking ability. He can play on or off the basketball both in transition and in the half court, he’s a big time finisher at the rim with explosion and strength to play through contact and he’s a stat sheet stuffer who finds ways to impact the game across the board.
Nick Marrero | 6’2” | Patriot
One of the best shooters in the NOVA area if not in the entire state, Marrero has waited his turn and now is leading an undefeated Patriot team with a host of talent in all classes. The senior is a natural leader who leads by example in his play on both ends of the floor, he has a quick release and deep range with the ability to set his feet quickly and make shots on the move and you can count on him to make the right play and step up in big situations down the stretch.
