We’ll look at five players from each area and position that coaches at all levels looking for a player should keep an eye out for. Here’s five 2022 guards in the Hampton Roads area that need more love.
Xavier Brown Xavier Brown 6'2" | PG Oak Hill Academy | 2023 VA | 6’2” | Jamestown
Brown has been on an absolute tear so far since coming back to Jamestown from Oak Hill, stuffing the stat sheet in every way you can think of. The athletic and high motor PG is a guy who can score it in bunches, set others up and make his teammates better and he’s an excellent rebounder and defender at his position as well. He’s put up big numbers and is one of the first players coaches looking for a PG in ’22 should take a look at.
Leroy Hamilton | 6’2” | Oscar Smith
Hamilton’s been somewhat of a late bloomer at Smith, but with the departure of Kenyon Giles Kenyon Giles 5'11" | PG Oscar Smith | 2022 NV to Nevada he’s stepped in for the Tigers and took over the scoring role for them without batting an eye. The strong and shifty 6’2” lead guard has not only scored but done a great job running the show, he’s been efficient and he’s stuffed the stat sheets for them. He’s averaging
Elijah White Elijah White 5'11" | PG Kempsville | 2022 State VA | 5’10” | Kempsville
White is a guard who has played big minutes since he was a freshman for the Chiefs, but this year he’s the go-to guy and he’s having a great season. While he isn’t the biggest guy, White plays with terrific pace and poise, he’s skilled as a scorer that can fill it up from multiple levels and he can make plays for others as well. He has put up good numbers all year, including a triple double in a win over Jamestown at the Iverson Crossover Classic, only to out due it with another triple double in their win over Oscar Smith earlier this week.
George Cutler | 6’0” | Cape Henry
Cutler was a big part of Cape’s run to the state championship last year, and he’s continued that stellar play this season and one of a large group of guards in the 757 coaches should be paying attention to. He’s a strong and very shifty guard who can create in pick-and-rolls and in isolation situations, he makes good reads with the ball in his hands and he is a good finisher in the midrange and an improved shooter from deep.
Kenny Page | 5’9” | Kecoughtan
Page is one of the 757s most underrated guards in any class, as he’s shown over the past two seasons that he can flat out play and make plays on both ends of the floor. He isn’t the biggest guy but he’s very long and athletic and is shifty off the bounce, he has good hang time to finish around the rim and he can make shots from different levels off the bounce too.
