As the conference season heads into the most important time of the year, teams are really solidifying their rotations and finding the winning recipes in order to climb the ladder of success in hopes of reaching their conference championships and a run at the state tournament in March. Before the calendar turns over to February, let us take one last look at some great games from January. Continue reading for a look at some of the biggest surprise performances from recent Idaho games.
Horseshoe Bend vs. Salmon River: Horseshoe Bend was able to come away with a powerful victory over Salmon River recently thanks to a great defensive performance and an efficient shooting night on offense. Horseshoe Bend held Salmon River to single-digits in each quarter throughout the game and did a great job of keeping their flow going on offense in order to compliment the defensive effort. Horseshoe Bend was led by Porter Larson scoring 16 points and bullying his defenders on his way to the rim. Horseshoe Bend also got some great help from Decker Larson adding 14 points inside of the arc, and Nic Cooper rounded out double-digit scorers with 13 points of his own. On the other side, Salmon River was able to knock down a couple of shots from deep and got the most help from Garret Shepherd scoring 13 points along with 3 three pointer’s and Cordell Bovey scoring 3 three pointer’s as well and finishing with 11 points.
Potlatch vs. Clearwater Valley: Potlatch pulled away from Clearwater Valley late in the game in order to seal their win and keep showing that they are capable of accomplishing big things this season. Potlatch was able to overcome an early deficit and mounted a great comeback in order to end up with a win by the time the game finished. Potlatch was led by a balanced 21 point game from Patrick McManus as he scored well at the rim and also knocked down a trio of three pointers. Potlatch also got help from Jaxon Vowels adding 13 points and playing well on defense all night long. Clearwater Valley fought hard and got a lot of help from Landon Schlieper scoring 11 points and knocking down a three pointer.
