There are pesky guards, switchable wings, and rim protecting bigs that can anchor a top defense. Today we focus on the wings with translatable defensive traits in Florida’s premier conference.
Jordan Burks
Burks started off the season with crazy scoring performances, but as of late he’s showing off a new side of his game. In American Collegiate Academy’s 1-2-2 press, he displays an enormous wingspan and quick feet. He’s corralling lead guards and setting up traps with his teammates. You can hear him barking out his teammates’ defensive assignments in the halfcourt. Burks recently transferred to another SIAA school, Central Pointe Academy where he still averaging nearly 30 points a game and playing strong defense against older players on their post-grad team. He’s seen a major surge in his recruiting since the start of the season.
Jalen Carruth Jalen Carruth 6'7" | SF Kingsmen Academy | 2023 FL
Carruth is one of the best 3 and D prospects in the entire conference. At 6’7, the wing can successfully cover each perimeter position and excel at disrupting passing lanes. His length can swallow ball handlers and make him an ideal win defender. Carruth has textbook size, good lateral speed, and solid anticipation on the defensive end. The 2033 prospect currently holds several high major offers and with the grind session weeks away and another season in the wings, he could add to an impressive list.
Gregory Limage Gregory Limage 6'4" | SF Downey Christian | 2022 State FL
Limage is hard to miss on the court. He’s arguably the most vocal player in the SIAA and it’s not just filler talk. Limage calls out defensive assignments, gets his teammates in the right spots, and calls out screens. He’s a high IQ defender that collects multiple charges a game. In fact, he’s coming off a game where he drew 5 of them. He’s a strong on ball defender that doesn’t let you drive through his chest and can sit down in the post. The 6’5 wing is another 3 and D prospect can have an immediate impact at the next level.
John Anthony
Anthony is one of the newer players in the SIAA and he fits the toughness of his squad. The 6’5 off guard has a knack for physical play that bothers his matchup. Whether it was the City of Palms, The Florida Get Down, or The Wally Keller Classic Anthony has got under the skin of everyone in front of him. He’s a strong athletic perimeter player who forces offensive players out of their normal game plan. The 2023 prospect is a dirty work player that will make someone’s day that much harder.
