Cardinal O’Hara won the game handily — 79-58. This young, talented group that coach Nemetz has assembled may be a year away from competing for the top spot in the PCL, but O’Hara’s long-range potential is intriguing.
Below is a look at the numerous college prospects that took the court yesterday for the Constitution at Cardinal O’Hara game.
Constitution:
Jacob Beccles Jacob Beccles 6'3" | CG Constitution | 2022 State PA – 6’3” / Senior / Team Durant / Combo Guard: This season Beccles (2nd Team 2A All-State in 2020-21) has taken his scoring to yet another level. He has already posted games of 45 and 32 points and made those feats look easy. The insanely deep range on his jumper makes Beccles a threat the moment he comes over half-court. Beccles (20 points in this contest) can also score off the bounce in the half-court or in transition. His next level athleticism and healthy vertical allow Beccles to play above the rim. Last night he appeared more focused at the defensive end as well.
Jamal Carr – 6’5” / Senior / Wing: With his length and ability to shoot the three at a high percentage, Carr is a solid prospect who is flying under the radar. As a bonus to his shooting, Carr’s speed and athleticism allow him to get out on the fast break where he is an extremely creative finisher. He scored 9 points vs. O’Hara.
Lamar Glover – 5’10” / Senior / We R1 / Wing: If opponents become fixated on stopping Beccles, that leaves Glover wide open. Given his lethal spot up three-point shooting skills, that game plan is a big mistake. Additionally, Glover has the foot speed to get out in transition and score the ball. At the defensive end, Glover has a knack for picking pockets.
Cardinal O’Hara:
Josh Coulanges Josh Coulanges 5'9" | PG Cardinal O'Hara | 2023 State PA – 6’0” / Junior / K-Low Elite / Point Guard: Right now, Coulanges (7 points last night) is more of a scoring point guard. His ability to get buckets at all 3-levels is one of the keys to O’Hara’s offense. However, as Coulanges’ facilitation skills improve and this young team develops around him, his potential as a distributing lead guard is unlimited. You can see a solid chemistry developing between him and first year teammate Izaiah Pasha Izaiah Pasha 6'4" | CG Cardinal O'Hara | 2023 State PA .
Maasai Harris Maasai Harris 6'0" | CG Collegium Charter | 2022 State PA – 6’0” / Senior / East Coast Bruins / Point Guard: Harris (5.2 ppg.) is also a high school track star and when you watch O’Hara hoops, his next level, “track guy” speed is immediately evident on the basketball court. His speed and quickness are complimented by a fluid jump shot with range out to 17 feet. Harris recorded 8 points and 5 assists in this game.
Hunter Johnson Hunter Johnson 6'2" | CG Cardinal O'Hara | 2024 PA – 6’1” / Sophomore / We R1 / Combo Guard: This season Johnson has stepped into the starting lineup full time and has done a tremendous job. The sophomore is averaging 11 ppg. thanks to a drastically improved offensive skill set. Johnson can drain threes or slash to the rim. He is also will not hesitate to put the ball on the deck and drive to the tin. However, it was Johnson’s court vision and passing that took center stage last night (10 dimes).
Pearse McGuinn Pearse McGuinn 6'8" | PF Cardinal O'Hara | 2024 State PA – 6’5” / Sophomore / K-Low Elite / Shooting Guard: McGuinn’s reputation as a pure shooter who can hit from well behind the arc proceeds him. This season he struggled out of the gate, but recently seems to have found a groove. Against Constitution he drained 2 of 4 three-point attempts and totaled 16 points. He owns better handles than expected and competed on the glass (6 rebounds).
Izaiah Pasha Izaiah Pasha 6'4" | CG Cardinal O'Hara | 2023 State PA – 6’5” / Junior / Team Final Red / Wing: With each game we have become more impressed with this long and super athletic prospect’s versatility. Yes, Pasha (13.7 ppg.) can play as a slasher style wing who thrives in the transition game. However, it is possible for now and at the collegiate level, that his best position is point guard. He can handle the rock against a full court press, on the fast break and in the half-court. Pasha (13 points & 3 blocks in this game) can splash home the occasional three and use the dribble to get to his mid-range game or all the way to the rim. He owns solid basketball instincts and is a willing passer.
Amir Speights Amir Speights 6'4" | PF Constitution | 2024 State PA – 6’4” / Sophomore / Philly Blue Magic / Wing: Speights is a returning starter who in the off season improved his 3-point shooting. Last night Speights scored 9 points (1/2 on threes), played fierce defense, and worked the boards (6 rebounds). He is another member of O’Hara’s impressive 2024 class to watch this season.
