Booker T Washington continues to rise up the 6A rankings and night in and night out they’re showing that they truly are one of the best teams in the state. The Hornets went on the road against a strong Owasso team and overcame a slow start to knock off the Rams 65-61. That win should give the Hornets all the momentum they need going into the final tournament week of the year. They play at Union on Tuesday and will play in the Jenks-Union Invitational, which arguably has the best tournament field of all the tournaments next week.
The first quarter featured two big runs in a period of basketball that was an absolute foul fest on both sides. Owasso would jump out to an 8-0 lead halfway thru the first quarter. From there, it was all Booker T Washington as the Hornets closed the quarter on an 11-2 run to take an 11-10 lead into the second quarter. By the end of the first period, both teams were already in the bonus with at least seven fouls a piece.
Halfway thru the second quarter, Hornet senior guard Kam Parker Kam Parker 6'2" | PG Booker T Washington | 2022 State OK would be the first into double figures. By the end of the first half, Parker would be joined by teammate and senior guard Aaron Potter Aaron Potter 6'2" | SG Owasso | 2022 State OK and Owasso senior forward Caden Fry Caden Fry 6'7" | C Owasso | 2022 State OK in double figures. The Hornets led 31-23 at the halftime break.
The second half would be incredibly close throughout as the Hornets, sparked by Potter’s shooting from outside would try for the knockout blow several times on the Rams. But every time the Hornets went on somewhat of a run, the Rams would respond in a big way. However, in the end, it wouldn’t be enough as Hornet junior guard Lathan Boone would sink a pair of free throws with five seconds left to lock up the 65-61 victory.
We cap off this post by taking a look at some of the standout prospects from Friday night’s game. Keep it locked into Prep Hoops Oklahoma throughout the rest of the regular season and into the playoffs!

is having. However, this was MY first chance to see the dynamic senior in person this season. Everything that we’re saying about Potter this season is accurate. Potter got off to a slow start as the Rams were in control of the game early. However, the outstanding senior would quickly turn things around in the second quarter and used a stretch where he made a layup through a foul and then would make two deep shots from three-point range. After that, Potter was on and would end up scoring 20+ points in the win. Once Potter heated up, he wasn’t going to be stopped and just needed the smallest opening to pull the trigger.

was the star for the Rams in the 65-61 loss to Booker T Washington. The first of two standout Rams was Fry as he dominated the paint from start to finish. Fry ended up with a double double with 23 points and well over 10 rebounds. He was also a terror on the defensive side of the ball, blocking multiple layups as he showcased his ability to get back with his transition defense. Fry and the Rams had to know they would have an advantage in this department as Booker T Washington just doesn’t have much size. Fry once again showed why he’s one of the best big men in the state’s 2022 class.

is one of the more underrated guards in his class. Lewis isn’t asked to do much on the offensive side of the ball as their strength certainly comes in the paint with their big men. And because of that, Lewis won’t blow you away with his stats. But watch him play and see how he navigates the offense and is incredibly quick and in control with the ball in his hands and he has the chance to be a point guard on the rise within the state. Then you look at what he does defensively and that’s personally what stands out to us the most. He uses his quickness to his advantage and can be a real problem for opposing guards.

– 2022 Guard – Booker T Washington
As mentioned before, Booker T Washington got off to a slow start in the first four minutes of the game but after that, the Hornets were on a roll. And senior guard

is what sparked that roll in the second half of the first quarter. Parker would use a variety of tools on the offensive side of the ball. Whether it was knocking down jumpers, getting to the rim or making free throws. Parker would end up being the first player in double figures and would finish with nearly 20 points in the win. This is what makes this Hornet team so difficult to beat and makes them one of the favorites in Class 6A. Owasso limited what Potter could do early on but they couldn’t slow down both Parker and Potter throughout the game.
Lathan Boone – 2023 Guard – Booker T Washington
Our final Booker T Washington prospect is junior guard Lathan Boone, also QB1 for the Hornet football team. Boone hasn’t gotten a lot of pub for his basketball abilities this season with Parker and Potter getting a lot of the attention. But if you watch this Hornet team, you see very quickly how important Boone is to the success of the Hornets. He is so incredibly active on the defensive side of the ball and doesn’t just do one thing. He isn’t just locking down guards with active hands and causing problems. He has no problem going into the paint and taking charge after charge and throwing his body around for the better of the team. Boone will be an X-Factor to the Hornet playoff run in March.
