When you sat and watched the games and saw the ability of numerous players on one team and what they had the potential to do on the court, you asked yourself how do the coaches keep everyone happy with one ball. Well, the answer is found in one place: the players at the PG position. These players are often known as floor generals. Let’s take a look at a few who were their team’s captain at the Rumble…

JD is a PG with good size whose strength is scoring the rock. His offensive production was one of the best when it came to all the PGs that I saw at the Rumble. Here is his stat line: 18pts (64% on 7-11 Shooting; 2-4 from behind the arc) 3rebs; 1-assist, 2-TO. He was highly efficient, as his 64% from the field was amongst the best of all the PGs. He displayed his full scoring arsenal as he shot the ball well from 15ft and beyond.
He was one of the many score-first PGs at the Rumble.
He was a competitive, tough, and aggressive guard. He is quick with the ball in his hands, took good angles on his attack, and utilized crafty finishes at the rim. With many JUCO’s looking to obtain his services next year, JD had many offers on the table. Well, he is headed to Mississippi Gulf Coast CC next year.

Keiveon was another one of the score-first PGs. He is a playmaker that created for himself and his teammates. He is a creative ball-handler and is tough off the bounce. He can score the rock and has a lot of court savvy while doing so. His mid-range J was on display as he often pulled up off the bounce as defenders had to respect his ability to get to the paint.
Keiveon doesn’t shy away from making tough plays as he was big down the stretch for Callaway against Pascagoula.
His assist to turnover ratio wasn’t good against Callaway, which is an area that he needs to improve in. Here’s his stat line from the Rumble: 18pts (42% on 5-12 Shooting) 5-assist, 6-TO

Javin was another score-first PG that I was privileged to see at the Rumble. His efficiency wasn’t the best as he shot 38% from the field, but he had some quality looks at the rim from behind the arc, and as he got to the paint, breaking down defenders and creating for teammates and himself. Almost half of his shot attempts and half of his points came from behind the arc in c&s opportunities, where he shot 43%. He shares the court with some pretty good iso players, which he is a good iso player as well. With three legit players that are very good in iso situations and their ability to draw double teams, teammates often find themselves with good looks.
Javin has good court vision, and even though his assists numbers do not reflect it, he set the table often for his teammates.
There are still some individual improvements that need to be made in his game from the perspective of facilitating and controlling the flow of the game, but those are things that will come for this solid sophomore who is not afraid of the big stage. His stat line was 18pts (38% on 6-16 Shooting; 3-7 from behind the arc) 1-assist, 2-TO.
Javarian Mallard (6’0/PG/2025)

Javarian is the youngest in this article, and he was impressive in his time on the court. He is a developing PG, but what he did show as a strength was his attack off the bounce. One of the things that we do not see that is helping Javarian is his day in and day out match-up in practice against standout Keiveon Hunt. As with many freshmen who find their way onto the court with the varsity squad, the one consistent thing with their game is their inconsistency, which was seen in J’s scoring attempts.
However, Javarian showed his potential and what Callaway has in a PG over the next few years.
In his 21-minutes on the court, J only poured in 2pts (13% on 1-8 Shooting) but gave a glimpse of what we can expect as he steps into the driver seat next year.

Ja’Vian is an athletic PG with crazy handles and scores the rock. He is a difficult cover in one-on-one situations, and he is constantly putting pressure on the defense and drawing fouls. He is extremely aggressive off the bounce and is a big-time playmaker for his squad. He has found a good balance between scoring and facilitating and is definitely the person that makes this team go. He is a 2024 kid whose judgment on the court I did not question much. He has next-level decision-making skills and never allowed Provine’s offense to get stagnant. He can play in both the open court and half-court, and his impact is the same in both.
If there is a weakness in the opponents’ defense, he will find it and exploit it as he did against Terry HS.
His stat line tells you a lot about his ability to get to the line, as he was drawing fouls on defenders as he was just quick with the ball in his hands, and they kept their hands on him trying to contain him. I am looking forward to his development over the off-season and seeing him this spring and summer. Here’s his stat line: 8pts (0-2 from the field; 8-11 from the FT Line) 5-assist, 4-TO, 2-steals
