Aside from these great qualities, Idaho is also home to some of the best basketball players in the region and their talent and skills have been on display for all to see in a plethora of recent games. As New Year’s tournaments have wrapped up and teams begin to prepare for the daunting conference season, the best basketball is beginning to come to light. Continue reading for a look at some of the microupdates from recent Idaho action.
Skyline vs. Century: Century picked up a championship win in the East Idaho Holiday Shootout’s Marines bracket. Skyline battled hard throughout the game, but they were no match for the size, speed, and offensive output from Century. Century was led by a strong shooting performance from Isiah Harwell who finished with a game-high 24 points. Harwell also threw down 4 breakaway dunks for Century and showed that he is easily one of the best freshmen in the state. Isiah also did a great job of finding his rhythm with mid-range jumpers and drives to the basket. Skyline was led by 12 points from Keegan Maas on a tough shooting night, and 9 points from McKay Bird to go along with a couple of rebounds and assists.
Sugar-Salem vs. Vallivue: In another matchup during the East Idaho Holiday Shootout, Vallivue was able to take down Sugar-Salem thanks in large part to a stellar shooting night. Vallivue shot really well from the floor as a team and used a balanced approach to dismantle a solid Sugar-Salem squad. Sugar-Salem was led by Toby Pinnock scoring 12 points in the paint and grabbing a lot of rebounds on both ends of the floor. Boyd Sorenson scored 9 points in the fourth quarter to try and keep Sugar-Salem in striking distance, but it simply was not enough. For Vallivue, Jacob Martinez Jacob Martinez 6'0" | PG Vallivue | 2022 State ID scored a game-high 22 points on a strong shooting night from downtown, as well as Jakin Calhoun Jakin Calhoun 6'8" | C Vallivue | 2022 State ID dropping in 9 points while bullying opposing players in the paint throughout the night.
