At 6-foot-11, 270-pounds he certainly fits the mold of a traditional big man and he’s been playing like one too. Prictor has put together some dominant performances in the paint so far this year with Mountain View and has been happy with the way the Cougars have turned things around after a tough spring 2021 year.
“Last season was a struggle, there were a lot of new guys and no seniors and only two returning varsity players,” Prictor said. “But this year we’ve really found our stride. We’re 9-1 right now and it’s a lot better than our record last year.”
Prictor has certainly been a big part of the success. He’s been posting up strong down low, effectively utilizing his size along with improved footwork to get buckets down low. In a win over South Salem, he absolutely played big and didn’t get phazed by smaller guys swarming around him, and finished the night with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 blocks. His ability to run the floor is much improved and that’s resulted in him being more of a factor defensively in quicker action sequences.
“I’m trying to be more fast paced, just running the court and especially getting back on defense,” Prictor said. “I pride myself on my paint defense, but I don’t play a lot of guys my height so I’ve got to come out sometimes when we’re not playing zone. So I think I’ve been guarding out on the perimeter a little better. And while I’m speeding it up on defense, I’m slowing it down on offense. Sometimes I get a little frantic on offense, but this year I’ve been really slowing it down and most every time I get the ball down in the paint I’ll put it up there and score.”
Pritctor’s size and overall improvement have attracted the attention of college coaches. He notes that the main interest he’s received has been from programs in the NWAC and he’s open to the possibility of going the junior college route first and then head up to a D-II or even D-I school. In fact, one D-II school has been in contact about possibilities directly out of high school.
“Chico State reached out to me and came to a practice, worked out with me, and were super interested,” Prictor said. “They said they needed some more film. Obviously Caden (Harris) is going there and he’s my boy.”
Mountain View’s next test is Thursday night against in-town rival Summit and Prictor believes a victory could be the start of something really big for the Cougars. “I think if we really lock it down and keep our intensity the whole game, we can go really far,” Prictor said. “We have a good chance at Summit on Thursday. Last year, we lost by two and lost by three, but this year we’re a different team. Hopefully we can take them out.”
Prictor currently ranks as the #67 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
