Session one kicked off last weeked with a total of 10 games. This event provided a terrific platform for players to showcase their skills in high-level contests. Here’s a look at the players with the top skills from the event.
Best Defender: Fareed Burton 6’0 PG Taylor Made Prep – Quick feet, and quicker hands, the 6’0 floor general had several on-ball steals throughout the weekend.
Catch and Shoot Shooter: Carson Frincke 6’4 SG Balboa – Balboa went undefeated this weekend, and Frincke’s ability to space the floor, was key. Textbook mechanics including shot prep and a beautiful release and follow through.
Glue Guy: Samuel Olotu 6’3 SF Balboa – Olotu was all over the floor this weekend. The athletic wing did a little bit of everything. He defended on the perimeter, rebounded, and showed the ability to get out and finish in transition capped by a few thunderous dunks.
Best Rebounder: Nehemiah Johnson 6’5 SF Future College Prep – You could have also thrown Johnson on the top R&J athlete list. The 6’5 bouncy wing showed off a terrific second jump allowing him to grab rebounds both in traffic and out of area.
Top Rim Protector: Jediah Jones 6’9 C Taylor Made Prep – The long rangy Jones was terrific on the defensive side of the ball. He aggressively attacked every shot like it was the final play of the game. He had a magnificent 7 block performance on day 2.
Off the bounce shooter: Uriyah Rojas 6’3 CG Cooper International – Rojas was magnificent all weekend and probably established himself as a low major talent. He faced double and triple teams all weekend so catch and shoot wasn’t an option. Luckily for the gym rat Rojas, he was able to use step-backs and side steps to allude defenders before knocking down 3’s.
Top R&J athlete: Isaiah Daniel 6’2 SG Balboa (featured image) – Daniel was a blur that attacked the rim like a player with something to prove. He hammered home several thunderous dunks in transition. Overall his combination of speed and skill made him an easy choice for the list.
Top Downhill Driver: Chris Dockery 6’5 SF Middlebrooks Academy – You will never have to activate Dockery. The 6’5 wing is a consistent high motor player who loves to get downhill. Dockery does it in a unique way as well. If he can’t get there on a straight-line drive, then expect to see him spin his way into the paint for a bucket.
