The 6’5 guard has put on a noteworthy scoring effort this season, thanks to his combination of size, strength, and shooting fluidity. Averaging 22.5 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.5 steals on top of 51% from the field and 37% from the three point arc. Chacon has a smooth shot motion allowing him to quickly rise above opponents on pullups and step-backs. He excels as a driver when going to the right, where he is just too quick for most Patriot League opponents. Chacon is already up to 84 free throw attempts this season, putting him at 7.6 attempts per game, although I would like to see him increase his percentage from the line as he is shooting 58%. Another area that could improve Chacon’s shot-making diversity is getting more confident using the left hand, right now he is just too athletic for opponents, however he will need the versatility at the next level.
Jackson Keil Jackson Keil 6'1" | CG Sterling | 2022 State CO – Sterling – 2022
Keil has consistently improved his production every season, this year is no different. Averaging 21.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game, the 6’2 guard has put himself in the spotlight for Sterling’s 11-1 overall and 4-0 conference record. Keil has been emphatic this year in large part to his pace, allowing him to always get a shot while balanced or limit his turnovers. Keil appears to be a complementary combo guard for a college team, as someone who makes smart decisions, finds ways to efficiently score simple buckets, and enhance your team’s offensive output.
Max Zenk – Platte Valley – 2023
Platte Valley’s 6’6 wing Max Zenk has been a steady contributor for the team vying for a top-4 spot in their conference. Zenk has been averaging 17.9 points and 6.6 rebounds while posing shooting splits of 47 (fg)/38 (3P)/64 (FT). With such excellent size, Zenk has made use of this by taking just under four free throw attempts per game at 3.8. Another way he takes advantage is through post touches, where he just too much to handle when drawing contact. A big leap for Zenk has been his three point shooting, jumping from 24% between his freshman and sophomore seasons to the 38% hallmark stated before.
Cesar Hinojos Cesar Hinojos 6'1" | CG Brush | 2022 State CO – Brush – 2022
Hinojos is an interesting athlete due to his low center of gravity, long arms, and quick instincts. At roughly 6’1 and 185 pounds, the senior is averaging 17.4 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2 steals per game with splits of 54/39/66. Determining exactly what position Hinojos is would be a tough call, he is easily big enough to guard against taller matchups yet he possesses some perimeter shooting and passing instincts. At this level, Hinojos typically scores under the rim off of opportunities created by teammates. On defense, he has a long reach allowing him to swat passes and make steals from unsuspecting guards.
Zac Grable – Eaton
The three sport athlete has helped lead Eaton High to an incredible 11-2 record on the season. Grable is averaging 16 points, 3.3 assists, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.6 steals a game while contributing splits of 55/34/55 on the season. Simple box score stats tell just a little about Grable’s athletic ability, who is an above the rim athlete, especially in transition. Another incredible metric with Grable has been his driving ability, finishing 69% of his two-point field goals. While the metric is likely skewed from transition layups, Grable has proven to be a powerful finisher around the rim. Continuing to develop the shot off the dribble and from the corners will be an area for Grable to put an emphasis on, considering his vertical pop he could be a late riser on our rankings.
