My second new year resolution in 2022 to see these 5 perimeter players. This could mean seeing them either more or for the first time.
Gavin Chenevey Gavin Chenevey 6'2" | SG Tecumseh | 2023 MI (2023, SG, Tecumseh)
If you’re a diehard football fan in the state of Michigan, then you’re probably very aware of Chenevey. But he’s not just a football player, he’s also a very talented hooper. He’s just an excellent all around athlete. He’d be best described as the kid who would probably be really good at whatever sport he wanted to play. The athletic guard is on my must see list.
Jaxon Childers Jaxon Childers 6'2" | SG Benzie Central | 2024 State MI (2024, SG, Benzie Central)
Childers is coming off a terrific summer and fall and has become a highly touted prospect in Michigan. He can flat out shoot the ball and put points on the board in a hurry with his jumper. Childers isn’t just a shooter though, he’s an underrated overall athlete that can cover a lot of court. He’s also an excellent secondary ball handler.
Mario Johnson Mario Johnson 6'4" | SG Belleville | 2022 State MI (2022, SG, Belleville)
Don’t overlook Mario Johnson Mario Johnson 6'4" | SG Belleville | 2022 State MI ! He’s an athletic guard that can create in half court and in the open floor. Johnson is much improved since last season and has some real playmaking ability. He’ll play a big role in Belleville’s long term success this season. Johnson has received a couple December offers and I’d look for that trend to continue as the season plays on.
Chas Lewless Chas Lewless 6'3" | PG Detroit King | 2024 KS (2024, PG, Detroit Catholic Central)
He’s the number 2 ranked player in the class, so that part is easy. Of course, everybody wants to watch the most talented players. This young man has that it factor that can’t be taught. Lewless is as efficient with the ball as possible and has an incredibly high basketball IQ. We should all take advantage of having this young man in our state and get out to watch him play.
Mike Lividini Mike Lividini 5'9" | PG Southfield Christian | 2023 State MI (2023, PG, Southfield Christian)
Lividini can flat out play ball. He’s a classic old school lead guard that plays pass first and sets the table for his teammates. But don’t ever get fooled, because if you step off him, he’ll bury a triple with ease. He’s an efficient ball handler that doesn’t over dribble and handles the ball with a purpose.
