There were 7 games featuring teams from the 757, Richmond and NOVA area, and there was tons of talent in all classes and a lot of very good basketball games.
Here’s a look at part one of the many 2023 standouts from the event.
Amari Gray Amari Gray 6'2" | CG Life Christian Academy | 2023 State VA | 6’0” CG | Life Christian Academy
Gray was the catalyst for LCA in their win over Western Branch, as he got off to a fast start and also closed the game out for them while making plays in other ways than just scoring too. He’s a big physical guard who rebounds well for his size and position, he can create off the bounce and get to spots and make shots and he brings it defensively too. He was the MVP of their game finishing with 16 points in the win.
Judah Egbo Judah Egbo 6'7" | C Life Christian Academy | 2023 State VA | 6’8” C | Life Christian Academy
Egbo is a talented big man with a lot of upside moving forward, and you can see him coming into his own with his improvement on the offensive end. He’s very mobile and runs the floor well, he’s an explosive finisher at the rim and had multiple dunks on the game, he’s showing improvement in his post moves and touch and he is an excellent rim protector who defends the paint as well.
Sam Brannen | 5’11” PG | King’s Fork
Brannen was fantastic in Fork’s win over Landstown in the nightcap, as not only did he do a great job face guarding and making Donald Hand Jr. work for everything, but he shot it well and made plays off the bounce too. He’s a high IQ guard who is excellent in pick-and-rolls, he has deep range and is consistent off the catch and he has a good midrange game as well. He finished with 26 points and made plays for others while being very good defensively too.
Kylin Mann | 6’1” PG | Western Branch
While Western Branch dropped a tough one to LCA, Mann was fantastic for them on both ends of the floor and is the heart of their young team. He brings great energy on the defensive end jumping passing lanes and using his strength to body up defensively, he gets downhill and makes plays for others and himself and he makes tons of hustle plays for his team too.
Jahzari Priester | 6’7” PF | Western Branch
Priester is a young big to keep an eye on in the 757 as he is a massive kid who has good strength and touch in the paint. He’s surprisingly mobile for his size and runs the floor hard, he can seal and finish at the rim and over the shoulder, he works on the glass on both ends of the floor and he doesn’t back down against bigger and more athletic guys. He showed a lot of promise on Saturday.
Jalen Milt | 6’4” WF | Norview
While Norview dropped a tough one to John Champe, Milt was fantastic as he was aggressive on both ends of the floor and came at them time and time again. He’s a long and athletic wing who can get downhill and finish at the rim, he can make shots from deep and in the midrange and he plays with great energy on both ends of the floor. He’s very productive across the board and makes his team better when he’s on the floor.
