There were 7 games featuring teams from the 757, Richmond and NOVA area, and there was tons of talent in all classes and a lot of very good basketball games.
Here’s a look at part two of the many 2022 standouts from the event.
Leroy Hamilton | 6’2” CG | Oscar Smith
Hamilton was fantastic for Smith in their win over Peninsula Catholic, winning MVP and showing why he’s one of the top available guards in the 757. The 6’2” combo is best described as “smooth” as he can get to spots off the bounce and score it from multiple levels, he has good feel and instincts on both ends and he has the ability to get hot and ring off buckets in bunches. He finished with 27 points and 6 assists in their win.
Chris Brown Chris Brown 6'5" | SG Peninsula Catholic | 2022 State VA | 6’3” WG | Peninsula Catholic
Brown continues to be one of the top two way players in the 757, and despite a loss to Oscar Smith he showed why with his ability to make an impact in a number of different ways. At his size he can get to spots off the bounce and make shots, he can score it from multiple levels and he’s a good defender both on and off the ball. He should be a player that coaches of all levels are checking out.
Travon Gray | 6’5” F | Peninsula Catholic
Another two way impact player for PC, Gray’s energy and motor mixed with his athleticism allows him to make big plays on both ends of the floor. He is great in transition where he can finish above the rim, he’s a fearless rim protector and showed that with a couple of impressive blocks and he can score it in different ways too. His versatility makes him very tough to match up with and allows him to play and guard multiple positions.
Ryan Blakey Ryan Blakey 5'8" | PG Fairfax Christian | 2022 State VA | 5’8” PG | Faifax Christian
Blakey was fantastic in Fairfax Christian’s win over Cape Henry, as he was dominant on both sides of the ball and did just about everything you can ask for from a small guard. He scored it efficiently from deep and off the bounce, he showed good vision and was an unselfish playmaker throughout the game and he was an absolute menace defensively picking pockets and flying all over the place. The MVP of the game finished with 21 points and while we didn’t have full stats I wouldn’t be surprised if he was close to a triple-double with assists and steals.
Donald Hand Jr. | 6’5” CG | Landstown
While Landstown lost in a close and heated matchup against King’s Fork and Hand was face guarded and denied the whole game, the Boston College commit showed why he’s arguably the most talented guard in the area if not in the state. The 6’5” guard showed good craft off the bounce and got to the line consistently, he showed the ability to create space and make tough shots from deep and the midrange and he stayed even keeled despite dealing with some chippy and physical play.
George Beal George Beal 6'4" | SF Kings Fork | 2022 State VA | 6’4” WF | King’s Fork
Beal was named MVP in their win over Landstown in the nightcap and he was fantastic down the stretch when his team needed him to be. He’s known as a high motor and athletic wing who thrives in transition and is a good defender, and while he showed that he also showed he can create shots for himself and others and has improved in his ability to score it in a number of different ways. He rebounded, made tough shots and brought good energy on the way to 26 points and the win.
Daron Jackson | 6’3” WF | King’s Fork
Jackson is the x-factor for this King’s Fork team that has talented scorers and guards, but he brings something else with his ability to guard multiple positions and make all the hustle plays. He played with great energy, took advantage of his opportunities and scored it efficiently and he showed a lot of winning traits on both ends of the floor.
