The Lennard Longhorns were without their two best players, but had a big game from a freshman that was recently moved up from JV. Let’s get into the game’s top prospects.
Qu’mar Hobbs showed off his well-documented bounce and motor. Hobbs finished above the rim with monster two hands dunks, putbacks, and alley oop finishes. Although the junior is 6’5, he makes for a great roll man whose length and toughness make him a getaway target at this level. His ability to make the high low pass shows that his feel for the game is developing. He’s currently averaging a double double.
Daniel Delgardo Daniel Delgardo 5'10" | PG Leto | 2024 State FL Jr. went crazy in the third quarter, hitting three threes on his way to 13 points in 5 minutes. He finished the game with 21 points adding in another three, a transition finish, and an and1 finish. Delgardo Jr. gives you efficient shooting and a stellar floor general that led to several assists in the half court and on the break.
Derek Delgardo Derek Delgardo 6'0" | PG Leto | 2024 State FL III shot better than his teammate beyond the line. His 6 of 9 shooting from beyond the arc led to 20 point game. The sophomore not only dials it in from deep but gets in the paint with his quickness. Delgardo III is a sharp passer that collected an assist on alley oop passes and outlet passes that were thrown on a rope.
Sophomore Chris Cruz challenges Hobbs for the best finisher on the team. He welcomed contact, making shots around the rim with defenders flying at him. Cruz scored his 10 points without a playing being called for him using timely cuts and cleaning the offensive glass.
Deshawn Smith catches my eye every time he plays. He’s just a sophomore, yet his defense keeps him on the floor. Smith stepped in driving lanes for a charge and collected two steals by playing free safety in the Falcons press. Leto is an overall young team and guys like Smith and Cruz are why I think they’ll be competitive for years to come.

The backcourt of junior Jeremiah Emmons and sophomore Johnathan Oladude couldn’t hit a shot in this game, but the two racked up paint touches. Emmons made two crafty layups with Hobbs on the court. What impresses me most was the way he found the open man after the help defender slid over to him. Olodude had more success at the rim, showing off positive athleticism and a knack for drawing fouls on the drive.
Jason Johnson scored 19 points in one of his first varsity games of the season. He’s a long gangly 6’5 forward that excelled at finishing below the rim and on the break. Johnson didn’t look out of place in heavy minutes.
