This is not intended to be a ranking or an inclusive list of the best 8th graders in Kentucky. It’s strictly a starting point for a watchlist for rankings down the line.
Cole Edelen Cole Edelen 6'2" | PG Male | 2026 State KY , Male – Edelen was a difference maker in Male’s run to the LIT championship this past week. A high level shooter who is a crafty finisher, Cole looks like he’ll follow in his older brother’s footsteps and be a high IQ point guard who will be among the best in the city of Louisville for years to come.
Luke Fawns Luke Fawns 6'6" | SF Montgomery County | 2026 State KY , Montgomery County – The son of one of the best players in Montgomery County history, Luke is already one of the best players on a very inexperienced Montgomery team and taking his lumps as he adjusts to the speed and physicality of the high school game. A big wing, Fawns is a good shooter and keeps improving his all around game.
Taylen Kinney Taylen Kinney 6'1" | PG Newport | 2026 State KY , Newport – Kinney was off to a strong start before a leg injury ended his 8th grade season. More of a floor general type of point guard, Taylen is skilled and has a high IQ with a great feel for the game. He’s a player to keep an eye on in the always loaded 9th region.
Jonathan Moss Jonathan Moss 5'10" | PG Daviess County | 2026 State KY , Daviess County – 8th graders rarely dress varsity in the 3rd region, much less play a meaningful role but Moss is already starting at point guard for the Panthers. Jonathan is small but lightning quick and has a good skill level and the demeanor necessary to run a team.
Gabe Weis Gabe Weis 6'8" | PF Montverde Academy | 2026 State FL , Washington County – The lone “big” on the inaugural list, Weis is a solid role player for the rapidly improving Commanders. A big body who is solid around the rim on offense and a dependable rebounder on both ends. As his game develops, he could and should add some shooting range to his repertoire.
