At first there were words exchanged between the opposing players, but then coaches become involved on the floor and the benches were clearing towards the action. There was little to no physical nature to the altercation, but before order to be restored the officiating crew had decided to call the game. With 33.4 seconds remaining, the Cathedral Fighting Irish were awarded the 80-64 victory.
Prior the unfortunate incident at the end, there was a pretty darn good basketball game being played between two of the states best teams. An overall frenetic pace led to a lot of turnovers, but both teams showed off their talent and shot-making as well. The teams combined for 18 made three-pointers on the night.
As the game went on, Cathedral just continued to build on their advantage. The Irish won each quarter in increasing fashion before eventually building a 20+ point lead in the fourth quarter. Arsenal Tech never stopped fighting would pull within 12 before settling in to the 80-64 final. For Coach Jason Delany and the Fighting Irish, it was their second consecutive Indianapolis City Championship and the fifth in the last six seasons.
The loss for Arsenal Tech snapped their 12-game winning streak as they fell to 15-3 on the season. They had beaten Cathedral 80-73 back on December 18th. The Titans will return to the floor on Friday against Muncie Central for a North Central Conference matchup. As for the Fighting Irish, they have now won seven of their last eight games to move to 13-4 overall. They play on Saturday against Purdue Poly Englewood.

Arsenal Tech High School was the place to be for college coaches last night. In total I saw Eastern Kentucky, IUPUI (two coaches), Southern Indiana (two coaches), Purdue Northwest, and Marian. There certainly could have been more as well.
