The event features teams from all over Florida and this year expanded to include teams from Georgia. The New Year’s favorite event was a bit smaller in scope this year due to limitations which arose as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but nevertheless featured a ton of high level talent that was worth taking a second look at. Here were the event standouts:
Noah Ngamba Noah Ngamba 6'5" | SF Potter's House Christian | 2022 State FL , 6-6, 2022, Potter’s House Christian
Ngamba was one of the most complete prospects I saw at the FGD. Ngamba is not only strong and has great size for a guard but can shoot it at a high level and put the ball in the basketball in a myriad of other ways. Ngamba plays with complete control of his body and can punish defenders of all heights with his incredible strength. He had some tough time avoiding charge calls as a result, but that very well could be as a result of some questionable reffing as opposed to a legitimate concern about his playstyle. Ngamba is also great on defense and gets stops againts both bigs and guard due to his physicality. I think that Ngamba could definitely swing it at a D1 and should be a guy coaches keep their eyes on.
Marvin Golf, 6-4, 2023, Lake Worth
Golf is someone I have never heard of, but had a huge impact on the game against Potter’s House on Saturday, Golf is a fantastic athlete who was able to bounce above defenders who were much larger than he was. This makes his a fantastic rebounder, a skill that he was able to show despite being slated against multiple 6-8+ players on Potter’s House. At 6-4 and playing a true hybrid post role, I thought that Golf was slotted weirdly in the offense but nevertheless played an important part with his defensive effort. Golf has great hands and was overall a great defender against both guards and big men alike. He was able put the ball back in the basket in clutch situations, leading to Lake Worth improbable W against a great Potter’s House team.
Calvin Sirmans, 5-7, 2023, Lake Worth
Sirmans is the exact definition of a baby guard but could still get down with some of the bug guys on Potter’s House. He’s a contortionist around the rim, and he managed to find all of these nearly invisible gaps to get through or past the Potter’s House big men. He had a fantastic, tight handle that enabled him to keep the offense going, no matter what Potter’s House threw at them defensively. Sirmans also provided big bursts of energy for the offense when they needed it. He’s a small guard that I think will struggle to find college looks, but we can still appreciate everything he is bringing to his current Lake Worth team.
Bol Agu, 6-8, 2022, Potter’s House Christian
The big fundamental! Agu started off white hot for Potter’s House. He had a good first half of play: showing his ability to finish around the basket and that he could extend to the mid-range. His size puts him above most defenders and with his light touch, he was able to stretch the floor and space out the offense, offering more looks inside for his bigger teammates like Christian Richardson Christian Richardson 7'0" | C Potter's House Christian | 2022 State FL and Ben Ezeagu. I could see him at the right D2 situation, and he’s a guy who I think will only get better in the near future.
