A lot of great games were played over the course of the three-day tournament and many teams played each other from different classifications and districts, making for a truly fun outing of basketball. As the tournament wrapped up, a few notable games took place with outstanding team and individual efforts on display. Before conference schedules begin and teams begin to focus in on their games, take some time to look back at a recent tournament in eastern Idaho. Skyline vs. Vallivue: In a matchup featuring teams from different conferences, Skyline was able to outlast Vallivue thanks to a buzzer-beater three pointer from George Price. Skyline and Vallivue battled hard throughout the entire game and both teams showed their ability to lock in on both ends of the floor. It was only right that late game heroics would be needed to finally put an end to this game. Skyline was led by Keegan Maas leading all scorers with 19 points. Maas shot the ball well from outside and forced Vallivue to have to cover him more closely in the second half of action. Skyline also got assistance from Isaac Farnsworth who contributed 7 points and did a lot of damage in the paint. Vallivue put up a great effort, thanks in large part to Jacob Martinez Jacob Martinez 6'0" | PG Vallivue | 2022 State ID scoring 16 points on a hot shooting performance from deep.
Mountain Home vs. Sugar-Salem: Mountain Home won a defensive slugfest against Sugar-Salem during the East Idaho Holiday Shootout recently. Mountain Home did a great job of controlling the pace and tempo of the entire game and caused havoc for Sugar-Salem’s offensive schemes. Mountain Home was led by an outstanding performance by Brandon Bethel Brandon Bethel 5'11" | PG Mountain Home | 2022 State ID who scored a game-high 18 points. He did a great job of scoring at all levels and also found a way to get to the free throw line. In addition, Bethel also dished out 4 assists and was a pest on defense all night which allowed him to rack up 6 steals during Mountain Home’s victory over Sugar-Salem.
