A talent-filled three-game slate, there were plenty of prospects included in our rankings that were on display. Plus, some new faces who used the stage to help bolster their name.
Justin Edwards Justin Edwards 6'6" | PF Imhotep Charter | 2023 State #3 Nation PA | 6’7 | Imhotep ’23
Edwards is considered as one of the top players in his class on a national scope and he showed why on Monday against St. Frances. The 6-foot-7 lefty is a lanky wing with scoring versatility that makes him a threat from anywhere on the floor and he did so as he scored 29 points in the victory. He overwhelmed smaller defenders with his length inside or in the mid-range and operated effectively off the dribble when defenders with slower lateral speed switched out on him. Edwards has a phone book of schools who have offered and is now entering the blue-blood conversation with Kentucky recently extending an offer.
Bryce Lindsay Bryce Lindsay 6'2" | CG St. Frances | 2022 State MD | 6’3 | St. Frances ’22
Lindsay has been on a tear the past two weeks and shooting the ball at an incredible rate from what seems to be unlimited range. Defenders have to account for him extending past the volleyball line and Lindsay can find his mark both off the bounce or off the catch. The 6-foot-3 sharpshooter tallied 26 points in the loss to Imhotep, 12 of which came beyond the arc. Lindsay also showcased ball skills in pick-and-roll situations where he’d probe until he found an opening in the mid-range for quick jumpers. Lindsay is went on an official visit to South Carolina yesterday and should be wrapping up his recruitment sooner rather than later.
Daquan Davis Daquan Davis 6'1" | PG Overtime Elite (GA) | 2024 #119 Nation GA | 6’1 | St. Frances ’24
Davis has been a steady producer for the Panthers this season and he rose to the occasion once again in the game against Imhotep. To add to his toughness argument, Davis battled through an ankle injury that probably would’ve kept most players sidelined. Instead Davis laced up and went head-to-head against 2023 Rahmir Barno Rahmir Barno 5'10" | CG Imhotep Charter | 2023 State #223 Nation PA , who has emerged as a mid-major prospect. Davis added 18 points for the Panthers and did so by connecting four three’s, a couple of which came in transition where he stopped on a dime with balance. He also had patience as a driver and was particular in his attacks where he’d wait for the rotating defense to expose driving lanes and utilize them to get to the rim for finishes.
Cameron Whitmore Cameron Whitmore 6'7" | PF Archbishop Spalding | 2022 State #30 Nation MD | 6’7 | Archbishop Spalding ’22
Whitmore has built a national reputation as a high-flying finisher who puts down insane dunks both in space or in traffic. He’s an explosive and quick jumper who is fearless when he sets his mind to putting a defender on a poster and he added to that collection on Monday. He opened up his bag in the second half where he made his presence felt in the paint quite often. In the first half, Whitmore bailed the defense out with a few possessions settling for three’s, but it was when he became the determined finisher that his team created separation from West Catholic. The future Villanova Wildcat led his team with 23 points, collected 12 rebounds and dished out four assists.
Kaseem Watson Kaseem Watson 6'6" | CG West Catholic | 2022 State PA | 6’7 | West Catholic
It was my first time catching Watson live and I walked away impressed with all that he can do for his size at 6-foot-7. The CSU-Bakersfiled signee has good ball skills, a confident approach as a scorer and isn’t afraid to get scrappy defensively or battling for rebounds. Watson did a nice job of taking what the defense gave him on his way to 22 points. He got downhill in transition, looked smooth on his catch-and-shoots from three and got to his spots in the mid-range.
Jordan Pennick Jordan Pennick 6'1" | CG Archbishop Spalding | 2022 State MD | 6’1 | Archbishop Spalding ’22
Pennick continues to prove why he’s a scholarship player at the next level. Whether it’s a good Division II or a low Division I program, Pennick has the dog in him that every coach wants in their players. He’s one of the better two-way players in the state and has been particularly better with shooting efficiently from three this season. He hit five three’s in his teams win over West Catholic, four of which came in the second half as he followed up Whitmore with 21 points.
Zion Stanford Zion Stanford 6'5" | SF West Catholic | 2023 State PA | 6’4 | West Catholic
The energy and intensity that Stanford brought for the Burrs immediately caught my eye. Whenever you’re a team that travels into a different state taking on an opponent with the talent that Spalding boasts, it’s important to have a guy like Stanford who is fearless and not afraid to show everyone in the gym. That mindset ran was infectious to his teammates on the floor as well. It also helped that Stanford was very impactful as a driver. Whenever Stanford got the ball in his right hand, he’d get his defender off balance and head straight to the cup where he embraced contact and finished through it on a few occasions. He’s a versatile defender who can guard players out of his position thanks to his competitive and toughness. Unfortunately for his team, Stanford let the heat of the moment get to him late in the fourth when the Burrs were attempting a late comeback and picked up his fifth foul off the ball. He still contributed with an meaningful 16 points.
Isaiah Williams Isaiah Williams 6'3" | CG Rosedale Christian | 2024 MD | 6’2 | Calvert Hall ’24
Calvert Hall doesn’t have many guys who can create offense off the dribble other than Williams and with that being the case, sometimes he can settle for what seem like bad/contested shots. For what it’s worth, he’s becoming better at capitalizing in those scenarios especially when he gets an edge on his defender, puts his head down to attack and stops on a dime in the mid-range for quick pull ups. The sophomore guard caught a groove in the second half and led his team with 23 points that included crunch time buckets to help seal the victory.
Khani Rooths Khani Rooths 6'7" | SF IMG Academy | 2024 State #16 Nation FL | 6’7 | Georgetown Prep ’24
Rooths comes in as a stout No. 2 in our 2024 updated player rankings and for many reasons. He poses great size and length as a wing at 6-foot-7, is a multi-positional defender and can impact the stat sheet in multiple ways. Despite his team coming up short on Monday against Calvert Hall, Rooths had a solid effort and still showed many signs of immense potential to be unlocked in the near future. His jumper was an area that Rooths needed improvement and he continue to adds polish to that part of his game as well as confidence. He’s capable off the dribble as a scorer and uses his long strides to quickly find himself at the rim. In transition he makes the right plays whether it be last second passes to streaking teammates or rim-rocking dunks when he has space. Rooths chipped in with 14 points.
