Michael Cooper of Robbinsdale Cooper (2023 forward). One of the most important performances of the day was from Cooper, the Hawks 6’5 (approximate) junior forward. He had a big block late in the game but most importantly finished off several possessions with deep paint scores. Michael scored on 9 of 13 chances and those 18 points at the cup weren’t countered by Andover. Cooper runs well, is long, and has the potential to be an excellent player for the Hawks this year and next year. There is a lot of room for growth with Cooper too because he is agile getting his length on the ball.
Eric Dueffert of Prior Lake (2022 wing). Eric has had a really nice senior year joining the 40 percent club as a three point shooter and scoring in double figures. Today against STMA he hit two more threes and scored 14 today. Solid shooter teams have to locate.
Connor Foy of Andover (2022 wing). Foy switched numbers so it was tough to know who it was at first because there is no 44 in the book. Connor gave the Huskies a consistent scoring option putting up 15 points plus he grabbed seven boards. Foy is the third leading scorer for Andover but he nearly doubled his normal output. He scored three times at the rim and then hit a couple triples plus was fouled at the arc making all his foul shots. Scored inside first, outside later.
Beau Johnson Beau Johnson 6'6" | C Spring Lake Park | 2023 MN of Spring Lake Park (2023 center). Beau has surely improved since the previous games I saw. Playing with more confidence and his footwork seems to have improved. Right now he gives his team good low post defense and constant defensive rebounding. Had 14 boards in the loss to Edina.
Ethan Lukandwa of Champlin Park (2022 wing). Ethan is a lefty and he was the Rebels’ second scoring option against the Cougars. When South started to limit Taki, Ethan stepped in using that left handed stroke to hit a pair of threes and several shots in the paint. Good lift on his jumper, a nice lefty release, and the ability to get comfortable in tight spaces, Ethan had 18 points on 7 of 15 shooting plus grabbed six boards.
Carson Radke Carson Radke 6'3" | PG STMA | 2022 State MN of STMA (2022 guard). A 6’4 guard that recently returned from injury, Carson came into the game scoring 17 points a contest and upped that with a 26 point game. How did Carson produce his 26? Three field goal makes and TWENTY free throws sunk. That’s right, helped STMA come back from 35-17 halftime deficit by making 20 of 21 foul shots, most of which were in the second half. Not much else to say other than, made his foul shots early, late, and often!
Jager Sorenson of Buffalo (2022 guard). I didn’t see much of the Buffalo win over Rosemount but I did learn enough. And a big part of what I learned was that Sorenson, a senior, scored a vital 20 points giving the Bison a third scorer (with Nate Dahl and Antonio Bluiett Antonio Bluiett 6'2" | PG Buffalo | 2022 State MN ) to counter the three Rosemount scores that put up 19, 19, and 17 ( Caleb Siwek Caleb Siwek 6'1" | SG Rosemount | 2022 State MN , Anish Ramlall Anish Ramlall 6'2" | PG Rosemount | 2023 State MN , and Sam Kuseske Sam Kuseske 6'6" | PF Rosemount | 2022 State MN ). It was a 64-62 Buffalo win and Sorenson scored the game high 20, and his team needed every point he gave them. Big performance.
