College Commitment: Nathan Perkins-Fuesser (2022 Benson)
It’s finals week at Portland Public Schools, which means the slate of basketball games is slim. But while he may not be playing, Nathan Perkins-Fuesser Nathan Perkins-Fuesser 6'0" | PG Benson | 2022 State OR still remained busy with basketball. The shifty 6-foot point guard from Benson Tech decided to make a decision on his college basketball future and it will be close to home as Perkins-Fuesser has inked with Multnomah.
“After high school, all I know is that I wanted to play basketball at a college level and at Multnomah I was guaranteed a spot to play,” Perkins-Fuesser said. “Rather than going to a bigger or better school or out of state where I potentially wouldn’t make the team or would have to walk on with no playing time, I knew that my best bet was to stay home and use my offer up at Multnomah University.”
Perkins-Fuesser noted that Multnomah had offered him after he attended a MaxHoops event in the fall. The fit on the court seemed right. “I feel like since it is a team that loves to shoot that’s something I could easily adapt to since I’m a shooter myself and love to shoot,” Perkins-Fuesser said. “But I am also a really good passer so I feel like I’m gonna be a really good guard for them that creates shots for myself and my teammates. Something Multnomah doesn’t do a lot is feed their big when they’re open at least from the games I watched, and I like feeding bigs the ball so that extra consistent motion will create shots for the entire team.”
Outside of the court, Perkins-Fuesser liked what he saw out of the school as well. “I like is that it is not a very very big university so I feel like that gives me a better opportunity to have better connections with people and teachers,” Perkins-Fuesser said. “Since the teachers won’t have hundreds of kids in one class it gives them an opportunity to just know student by student too. I’ve been told they have a great psychology and business program which luckily for me is what I’m majoring and minoring in.”
With his collegiate decision out of the way, Perkins-Fuesser is turning his attention back on what’s in front of him – the season. The guard with the ability to light it up from the outside while using his tight handle to befuddle defenders is averaging 7.5 points so far but has been on a recent tear, averaging 14.0 points in his last three games including a career-high 18 points against Lincoln.
“The season is going good,” Perkins-Fuesser said. “We are grabbing a lot of people’s attention and each game we are getting better – like a lot better. We are hitting many three-pointers and despite the loss to Lincoln, we only lost by 7 and they are considered one of the best if not the best PIL team right now. The rest of the season is going to be fun to play – our team is very hungry and ready to surprise everyone.”
Perkins-Fuesser currently ranks as the #74 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
