College Commitment: Caden Harris (2022 Summit)
Caden Harris Caden Harris 6'4" | SG Summit | 2022 State OR is off the board. The strong 6-foot-5, 205-pound wing has certainly proved himself as one of the top seniors in the state and currently has helped Summit to a fast start. Had he waited, more college offers and opportunities might have come about. But Harris recently decided that it was time to end his college recruitment and made the phone call to Chico State to let them know that he was going to be Wildcat next season.
“Really it came down to the relationships I had with the program and where I was really gonna feel at home,” Harris said. “I really felt that with (head) coach (Greg) Clink and (assistant coach) Cevin (Meador). Also being in a college town was also a plus to me. When I was on the visit you could see how much the town supported the team.”
Harris also noted the fact his grandfather was able to rent a house there during the season to watch him play and the fact it was easier for him for his mom to drive down to games as factors in his decision to attend Chico State. From a basketball perspective it was the right fit as well.
“I felt that it would be a really good for with that they are a top 5 team in the country and I feel like going against the best competition will push me to get better everyday,” Harris said. “As well as they didn’t have a big guard that can shoot and they feel I can fill that spot. And with the offense and defense they run it would be a really good fit for my play style.”
Harris chose Chico State over a number of other D-II offers including Western Oregon, Fresno Pacific, and Cal State San Marcos. Division I programs had also shown serious interest and something along those lines could have materialized in the spring. But instead of waiting around, Harris decided now was the right time to go ahead and commit.
“I was kind of feeling stressed when I was playing feeling like I needed to do to much,” Harris said. “But now I feel like I can just have fun and enjoy the rest of my senior season.”
Speaking of his senior season, Summit has raced off to a 9-0 record and has beaten some tough teams including Lake Oswego and Mountainside, which on Monday night Harris scored a team-high 23 points. He’s averaging just under 21 points per game so far this season.
“I feel like we are growing everyday and this group really believes this is our year- you can feel it in practice we are pushing each other extremely hard,” Harris said. “I really feel like we can win it all this year. We just need to stay focused and locked in the whole season in everything we do.”
Harris currently ranks as the #4 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
