LA VERNE, CA—Despite a surge of Covid over the Southland, the Classic at Damien persevered with some outstanding games and talent galore—especially the underclassmen. There were some underclassmen standouts like 2023 Devin Williams Devin Williams 6'10" | PF Corona Centennial | 2023 State #86 Nation CA-S (Corona Centennial) , 2024 James Evans (West Ranch), 2024 Vyctorius Miller (Crean Lutheran), and 2025 Jovani Ruff (LB Poly).
Devin Williams Devin Williams 6'10" | PF Corona Centennial | 2023 State #86 Nation CA-S (Corona Centennial)
2023, PF, 6-foot-9, 200 pounds
Joel’s Take: One of the fastest rising prospects in Southern California is Williams. The willowy 4-man is a bouncy athlete with nimble feet and is a high-level rim-runner. He shows good hands, catches lobs, and exhibits a feathery touch from the perimeter. Arguably one of the Top 5 prospects in the West, regardless of class.
James Evans (West Ranch)
2024, WF, 6-foot-5, 220 pounds
Joel’s Take: This Charles Barkley-esque prospect is a menace to deal with, especially on the offensive end. He can snag rebounds, orchestrate the break, and either attack the rim or drop off a pass. He has the frame and strength to finish through contact and he can explode above the rim if need be. His touch extends to the stripe as well as he is one of the more intriguing prospects in the West.
Curtis Williams Curtis Williams 6'6" | SF Etiwanda | 2023 State #159 Nation CA-S (Etiwanda)
2023, WF, 6-foot-6, 170 pounds
Joel’s Take: One of the biggest stock raisers in So Cal, or the West for that matter, is Williams. His performance against Corona Centennial in the Semis was very impressive. He shows solid ball skills, can break down defenders off the dribble, and his 3-point touch is smooth. Once he gains strength he’ll fit that High-Major wing-type tag.
Jimmy Oladkun (Damien)
2023, PF, 6-foot-8, 215 pounds
Joel’s Take: Oladukun is one of the more improved prospects in the Southland. The rangy 4-man has improved his touch out to the 3-point line and his elbow touch is impeccable. His production has picked up on a more consistent basis as well as his confidence. He rebounds in and out of his area is a solid rim-protector and he’ll sprint to the rim in transition.
Carter Bryant (Fountain Valley)
2024, WF, 6-foot-8, 190 pounds
Joel’s Take: Bryant is just scratching the surface of his potential. The hybrid forward affects the game in a mulitple of areas. He can knock down the 3-point shot, convert mid-range pull-ups, and finish above the rim. His savvy for the game is exhibited in his passing prowess, especially his ability to deliver timely passes in transition.
