Continue ReadingThanks to the fantastic video quality of the YouTube streams that CISNtv puts out (and a few solid streams from schools), we were able to get caught up on several CIML teams during the holiday break. We checked out Ames, Ankeny, Centennial, Johnston, Lincoln, Marshalltown, Northwest, Roosevelt, Southeast Polk, Valley, and Waukee, and we’ll be posting some scouting reports on players from each of these teams over the next few weeks to help fill the basketball void. In this article, we’re taking a look at 2022 wings from the aforementioned teams.
Jackson Snyder Jackson Snyder 6'0" | SG Centennial | 2022 State IA (Centennial)
An athletic 6-2 wing, Snyder is well-built and has the physicality to finish through contact around the bucket. He has the ability to be a versatile defender, as he’s strong enough to hold his own in the paint against bigger bodies and long and quick enough to defend on the perimeter.
Trevion Labeaux Trevion Labeaux 6'3" | SF Ames | 2022 State IA (Ames)
LaBeaux is a 6-4 wing with length and excellent athleticism that he uses to get to the rim, dominate on the glass, and make an impact defensively. He stuffed the stat sheet in the Little Cyclones’ win over Waukee, finishing with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. He has good hands and an extremely quick second jump, which really helps him on the glass. He uses his length effectively on the defensive end, getting into passing lanes and contesting shots, and he’s an effective finisher around the rim. He had a few nice possessions playing in a two-man game with Lipsey, setting a solid ball screen and rolling to the rim for easy finishes. He’ll need to continue adding some range to his game, but with his length, athleticism, and defensive potential, he’s a solid prospect.
Steven Kramer Steven Kramer 6'5" | SG Johnston | 2022 State IA (Johnston)
The future South Dakota Coyotes wing had an efficient night in the Dragons’ win over Southeast Polk, finishing with 16 points on 4-8 shooting (8-9 FT), 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. An athletic 6-5 wing with some length, he does a great job sitting in his stance and moving his feet on the defensive end, and he uses his length effectively to help him defend against smaller, quicker players. He’s a menace in transition who looks to dunk everything, and he showed a willingness to take smaller defenders down onto the block for buckets. He rebounds at a high level from his wing spot and has a penchant for getting to the rim within the halfcourt setting. He has improved his perimeter stroke this season, and as he continues to gain more confidence in his shot, he’ll turn into a deadly three-level scorer.
Grant Greazel (Marshalltown)
A 5-11 off-ball weapon, Greazel opened the Bobcats’ win over Roosevelt with a pair of catch-and-shoot 3s from the left corner, showcasing a quick release with good form on his jumper. He moves well without the ball in his hands, finding spaces in the defense to get his shot off, and his ability to stretch the floor for Marshalltown is key for their other athletic, slashing wing options.
Ryan Crandall Ryan Crandall 6'1" | SF Ankeny | 2022 State IA (Ankeny)
Given the fact that he has committed to play defensive back at Minnesota State, it should come as no surprise that Crandall is also a standout defender on the hardwood. An athletic and long 6-3/6-4 wing, he’s an active defender who uses his length effectively to defend multiple positions as well as contribute at a high level on the glass. He gets into passing lanes and contests shots and has the frame to be a versatile defender. Offensively, he has good body control around the rim and is an effective finisher with either hand around the bucket. He finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals, a block, and an assist in the Hawks win over Lincoln that we watched.
Alex Aguirre Alex Aguirre 6'2" | SF Ankeny | 2022 State IA (Ankeny)
A 6-2/6-3 wing who was excellent off the bench for the Hawks, Aguirre had 14 points on 5-5 shooting (2-2 3P, 2-2 FT), 4 rebounds, and 2 assists in their win over Lincoln. He’s a physical wing who absorbs contact well and can finish at the rim with either hand. He has good offensive awareness, keeping the ball moving and looking to attack overly aggressive closeouts by getting to the rim, where he can either finish or dish off to a teammate. He showed good form on a catch-and-shoot corner 3, and looks to push the tempo after pulling down defensive rebounds, either looking to go coast-to-coast or looking to a push ahead pass.
