One of my favorite events of the year, the CHC is in remembrance of Chance Harmon, who at 8 years old passed away from a rare cancer and this event honors him while also raising money for child cancer research.
The event brings the whole town out as well as most of western VA, and is a really special day of basketball run by some very good people. There were tons of talented players and great basketball throughout the day, and it was another successful year to help “Give Others a Chance.”
Here’s a look at some of the 2024 and 2025 standouts from the event.
Gavin Cormany Gavin Cormany 6'0" | CG Oak Hill Red | 2025 State VA | 6’0” WG | Radford 2024
Radford is a young team with a lot of talent, and while they lost a close game to Lord Botetourt you can see they’ll be a very good team moving forward led by Cormany. The son of Head Coach Rick Cormany, Gavin is his second son to come around and is a highly skilled shooter who can create off the bounce, make shots on the move and plays with good toughness on both ends of the floor. He finished with 14 points and 3 rebounds in the loss.
Elijah Kelly | 6’6” WF | Radford 2024
Kelly is one of the most intriguing young prospects in SWVA, as he has great size and length for his position at his age and is just starting to scratch the surface with how good he can be. The 6’6” wing has a smooth shooting stroke, can handle it in the open floor and has a ton of potential as a defender and with his versatility. He finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the loss.
Bryce Gill | 6’4” C | Auburn 2024
Gill is another young prospect in SWVA who should have a very good career at Auburn as he continues to develop. He’s a very big and strong kid for his age, he has good hands and can catch tough passes and he has great touch around the rim too. He finished with 9 points and was a factor on the glass in their close loss to North Cross.
Nicholas Millirons | 5’10” CG | Auburn 2024
The younger brother of senior star guard Ethan Millirons Ethan Millirons 6'0" | PG Auburn | 2022 State VA , Nicholas has some of the same skill set and will be next up for Auburn moving forward. The 5’10” guard is a crafty ball handler who can get in the lane and make plays, he’s a good shooter from deep and he has good feel as a playmaker as well. He finished with 12 points in their loss.
Eli Ellis Eli Ellis 6'1" | CG Moravian Prep | 2025 GA | 6’1” WG | Moravian Prep 2025
One of the most talked about freshmen in North Carolina, Ellis has put up huge numbers over the past two years and Moravian and he showed why in their win over VES. While he got off to a slow start, he showed he’s an excellent shot maker with deep range and a quick release, he’s crafty and able to create space and make tough shots and once he gets it going he’s very tough to stop. He scored all 19 of his points in the second half in a number of different ways.
Gavin Herrington | 5’7” PG | Floyd County 2025
Herrington wasn’t the high scorer or anything for Floyd, but it’s easy to see that the Buffaloes have a possible star at the point guard position over the next few years. While he’s only 5’7”, Herrington is an exceptional athlete with a quick first step and good end-to-end speed, he can elevate and finish at the rim through contact and he’s a good defender with good instincts as well. He finished with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists in their overtime loss to East Rockingham and made some big plays down the stretch.
