The future is bright for a lot of programs that were at Carmel Christian and five kids that showed us they were the real deal are written below. A brief breakdown of their game and also how they played Saturday as well.
Nick Dorn Nick Dorn 6'5" | SG JL Chambers | 2023 State NC (2023) Chambers High
Dorn had a very light 12 points, but he made four three-pointers and one that ultimately swung the momentum and helped Chambers pull out the narrow victory over Carmel Christian. Nick is the Younger brother of Torin Dorn, who recently finished at North Carolina State. Dorn has an impressive body frame and really good form. He only made one three-pointer in the first half, Dorn stayed composed as he has multiple times this season and stepped up big in the second half. His shooting success can determine how far Chambers may be able to go this season.
Joe Rhyne (2024) Gaston Christian
Rhyne is one of the ideal targets that Jasheem Felton can rely on. His consistency as a sharpshooter was on display in the third quarter against Cardinal Newman. Coming alive with transition three-pointers, as their pressure ramped up which that run ultimately decided the game. Rhyne also had four assists and showed his playmaking ability. His shooting success ultimately helps their offense flow better, less attention focused on Felton. He is good at getting to his spots and finding available spaces.
Isaiah Henry Isaiah Henry 6'5" | CG Cannon School | 2025 State #162 Nation NC (2025) Cannon High
Henry has the potential to be the best player in the state within his class and he has grown a lot this year, but his ceiling is unlimited. 21 points and 9 rebounds against an experienced Weddington team that went down to the wire. Henry is an assertive slasher with a good feel to only be a freshman. He can become a lethal jump shooter, beautiful arc on his shot. With his potential and at this rate, Henry might be at a national powerhouse sooner than later.
Derin Saran Derin Saran 6'4" | PG Asheville School | 2023 State NC (2023) Asheville High
Saran impressed in a stat-stuffing performance, showing how he can create opportunities for teammates and himself. Saran has not necessarily gone under the radar, however, he has not gotten the love with the 2023 class being so guard-heavy within the State alone. It is worth mentioning that Saran is on the Turkish National team, and for good reason. His poise and ability to see things within a play his defenders doesn’t notice. He can never be sped up or slowed down, a high IQ player that I believe will grow and get more aggressive going into the summer. Saran finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists against Concord Academy in a four point win.
Kaleb Siler Kaleb Siler 6'9" | C Carmel Christian | 2023 State NC (2023) Carmel Christian
Siler had an impressive game against United Faith to start the year and was named player of the game. So Saturday I was hoping for a really big showing on both sides of the floor against one of the better frontcourts he will see this season. Specifically how he would contain Chambers’ Maurio Hanson Maurio Hanson 6'7" | PF JL Chambers | 2024 State NC who was mentioned earlier this week as a player coming into his own in the same class as well. In the first half, it was not much Siler did to impress. However, in the second half, Siler showed how impactful his 6’10″ presence can be. He was amazing under the rim in the second half keeping his team in it and helping as a second line of defense as Jaylen Curry Jaylen Curry 6'1" | PG Calvary Christian | 2023 State #109 Nation FL relentlessly got to the rim with ease. Siler can become a really good player and arguably the top big man in his class if he catches up somewhat offensively and becomes even more dominant defensively.
