Player Evaluations
Cade Brenner Cade Brenner 6'3" | SG NorthWood | 2023 State IN (NorthWood) – 2023 6’3” PG
Brenner is a bigger, physical point guard with a lot of quickness. He controlled the offense all game, and he sees the floor incredibly well. He can get to the rim, though he struggled to finish early on, and he knocked down a mid-range and three-point jumper as well. Brenner also gets up and is extremely active on the glass as he grabbed 9 boards. Brenner would end with 12 in the win.
Trey Buchanan Trey Buchanan 6'0" | PG Westfield | 2024 State IN (Westfield) – 2024 5’10” PG
Buchanan is a smaller, young guard, and he played a very fundamental game following the injury to Smith. He is quick with the ball and showed off some good vision with it in his hands. Buchanan also shot the ball outstanding, going 4-4 until forcing two in the final 20 seconds. He is great off of the catch and shoot, and he should be an absolutely great player for years to come.
Deric Cannady Deric Cannady 5'11" | PG Cathedral | 2025 State IN (Indianapolis Cathedral) – 2025 5’11” PG
Cannady is a young freshman who moves the ball well and played incredibly well at the point guard position. He was able to use his quickness to get inside and stop on a dime, and he also showed off a very good floater in the lane. On the defensive end of the floor, Cannady played nice man defense and reads passing lanes well which led to a 6 point and 2 steal performance.
Tayshawn Comer Tayshawn Comer 6'0" | PG Cathedral | 2022 State #226 Nation IN (Indianapolis Cathedral) – 2022 6’0” PG
Comer is an extremely quick guard who seems to have a sense of calm when he has the ball in his hands. He looks to get downhill and is smooth around the rim, but he also showed off his outstanding vision and passing abilities. Comer can score it in so many different ways that he is going to make an immediate impact for Eastern Kentucky, and he is looking to lead Cathedral to just their second Sectional title since 1998. Comer had 19 points and 6 assists in the semifinal victory.
Arlondo Hall Arlondo Hall 5'8" | PG Tindley | 2023 State IN (Indianapolis Tindley) – 2023 5’7” PG
Hall is a small guard who can absolutely stroke it from the outside. He struggled shooting early as the length of Tech was not allowing him to get his shots off, but as the game went on, he was able to get some open looks and knock them down. Hall ended with 13 points on 3-6 from the outside. Hall is currently shooting over 50% from the outside which makes him one of the best in the state.
Cole Hatkevich Cole Hatkevich 5'11" | PG South Bend St. Joseph | 2022 State IN (South Bend St. Joseph) – 2022 5’9” PG
Hatkevich is a smaller guard who has a quick first step and always looks to score the ball. He has good touch around the rim, and he is never afraid to put his body on the line. He also never hesitated to let it fly from the outside, though he went just 1-6 from deep. Hatkevich ended with 9 points in the loss.
Zachary Huff (North Putnam) – 2022 5’10” PG
Huff is a smaller guard who used his quickness and physicality to make plays all game. He is smooth around the rim, and he knows how to finish through contact. He also went 3-6 from the outside in the win. Huff scored his career-high, 25 points on 10-14 shooting, and he tied his career-high for made threes in a game. All in all, Huff was the reason the Cougars won this game.
Jack Quinn (South Bend St. Joseph) – 2022 6’1” PG
Quinn is a smaller guard who was shooting it lights out in this one. He never once hesitated to let it fly from the outside, and his quick release led to his 3-3 shooting performance from the outside. He also added a nice finish on the inside as he would end with 12 points in the loss.
Dayveon Turner Dayveon Turner 5'11" | PG Arsenal Tech | 2022 State IN (Indianapolis Tech) – 2022 5’11” PG
Turner is a point guard who is always looking to make the spectacular play. Whether it is launching a three from the logo or throwing lobs off of the backboard to his teammates, Turner is always looking to make a highlight. Turner made some nice passes and came up with several steals on the defensive end of the floor. Overall, he ended with 14 points, 7 assists and 4 steals in the win.
