He scored the ball with efficiency from multiple levels but also found teammates with nice passes for assist. On the defensive side of the ball he locked down defenders using his length and lateral speed.
Greenfield School Senior Wing Aaron Murphy Aaron Murphy 6'5" | SF Greenfield | 2022 State NC didn’t waste any time get going, pulling down four rebounds and score multiple times within the first two minutes of the game. He’s very strong inside the paint but has soft touch around the basket and the ability to knock down shots from midrange. He led his team to a win and put together one of the most impressive stat lines of the day with twenty-two points and thirteen rebounds.
Hertford County Junior Wing Israel Powell Israel Powell 6'4" | SF Hertford County | 2023 State NC was easily the most productive player for his squad, finishing with a team high of seventeen points. He was constantly on the attack throughout the contest, getting downhill and not settling for outside shots too often. The lefty will be one to keep a close eye on over the next year and a half as he looks to lead his team to another state playoff appearance.
West Carteret Senior Forward Jaxon Ellingsworth Jaxon Ellingsworth 6'8" | PF West Carteret | 2022 State NC has the combination of height at 6’8 and shooting ability that college coaches should be intrigued with. He knocked shots from midrange and finished a few plays inside the paint while also rebounding the ball at a nice rate. On the defensive side of the ball he brought a nice amount of effort , contesting and blocking shots without fouling.
Washington HS Senior Guard Ashton Woodard led the way in scoring for his team with twenty-two points, knocking down shots from outside and finishing at the rim. He understands how to use defensive pressure to force turnovers and made good decisions in transition.
Farmville Central Senior Forward Derrick Cox Derrick Cox 6'3" | CG Farmville Central | 2023 State NC easily had the highest motor of any player that we watched on the day. He only stands at 6’1 but you wouldn’t realize it due to the fact that he makes an outstanding impact in the paint. Not only does he plays with a high motor but he’s a very strong player that finished thru contact.
