There are also many talented players at the tournament who are operating under the radar. Here is a look at Tuesday’s top standouts from Bowling Green.
Kaden Kinsler (Elsberry): The 6’0″ 2023 guard scored a game-high 31 points in an overtime victory over Van-Far. He had a big overtime period with seven points, including a pair of traditional three-point plays. He’s a tough cover because he has 3-point shooting range, but he’s strong on the drive as he showed the ability to hit tough jumpers off the dribble in traffic.
Matthew Weber Matthew Weber 6'1" | PG North Callaway | 2023 State MO (North Callaway): A 2023 guard who scored a school-record 42 points in the T-Birds overtime victory over host Bowling Green. He was on fire from the beginning as he scored 16 points in the first quarter. He’s smooth off the dribble and can also pass the ball. He finished the game with eight 3-pointers, which is also a school record.
Peter Nicholl (Winfield): A 6’0″ 2022 guard who scored a game-high 29 points in the Warriors victory over Silex. He can really light it up from 3-point range when he gets a look. He moves well to get open and he has a smooth release.
Mason Washington (Louisiana): A 6’3″ 2022 wing player who scored 14 points in the Bulldogs victory over Clopton. He’s a long and athletic slasher who can score at the rim or drop off the dime when he draws the defense. He is also very active on the defensive end where he can cause problems with his length and motor.
DJ Gillespie DJ Gillespie 6'0" | PG Winfield | 2022 State MO (Winfield): A 6’0″ 2022 point guard who scored 19 points in the Warriors victory over Silex. He’s an excellent playmaker who can set up teammates and keep the team organized while also being able to get a bucket when he needs to. He’s been doing it well at Winfield for four seasons.
Ryan Capps (Louisiana): A 6’2″ 2022 forward who scored a game-high 16 points in the Bulldogs victory over Clopton. He’s an undersized post who used his body and physical strength well around the basket. He did a great job of finding the backboard, despite being at any angle in the lane. He’s a hard worker who doesn’t mind the physical game.
Dashaun Dodson (Elsberry): The 6’0″ 2023 guard scored 20 points in the Indians’ overtime victory over Van-Far. He impacts the game at both ends of the floor. He can shoot the 3-pointer and he attacks well in transition. He is also an active defender who can play the passing lanes well.
Nikos Connaway Nikos Connaway 5'9" | PG Van Far | 2024 State MO (Van-Far): A 5’9″ 2024 guard who scored a team-high 22 points in Van-Far’s near upset of Elsberry in the first round. He was on fire in the first half as he scored 17 points to stake his team to a 10-point lead. The young lefty is quick and he displayed some smooth moves to get into the lane to finish. He can get buckets and drop dimes.
Cash Eivins (Clopton): A 6’4″ 2024 forward who has a big body and plays a solid game in the low post. He seals defenders well inside and when he got the touches, he has a nice touch off the glass. He also drained a nice jumper from the high post.
