The games were played at 4 different schools, (Albuquerque high, Atrisco Heritage, Cibola, and Sanida High) with the Semifinals and Championship game held at West Mesa High School. Several players used the platform to showcase their shooting skills. In this article, we take a look at the top Snipers from the event.
Jakwon Hill Jakwon Hill 6'1" | CG Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM 6’1 CG Volcano Vista 2022 (#3PHNM 2022) (featured image) – This is pretty much how the week went. Hill got an open look, Hill shot the ball the ball went through the net. The lefty shot the ball at such a high rate, I don’t remember him missing or touching the rim for that matter. It goes without saying, he was automatic in catch-and-shoot situations.
Judah Casaus Judah Casaus 6'0" | SG Del Norte | 2023 State NM 6’0 SG Del Norte 2023 (#8PHNM 2023) – Casaus was the best off the bounce shooter I saw. The Shooting guard had the ability to use his handle and wiggle to separate from opponents before launching from behind the line. Casaus has range out to the NBA three-point line and was accurate in both catch and shoot and off the bounce.
Harrison Frank Harrison Frank 6'1" | SF Del Norte | 2023 State NM 6’1 SG Del Norte 2023 (#12PHNM 2023) – Frank is the definition of a floor spacer. He was good knocking down shots both from the corner and the wing. He has a quick release and buried multiple threes in the game I watched.
Josh Tellez Josh Tellez 5'8" | PG Del Norte | 2022 State NM 5’8 PG Del Norte 2022 (#55PHNM 2022) – Tellez was Casaus’ running mate. The PG showed the ability to threaten defenses with his 3 point shooting ability. Tellez has good form on his shot, and he displayed it on both his outside shooting as well as from the charity stripe. In the game I watched he served as the ultimate cooler, closing out the game by converting from the line.
Kaden Valdez Kaden Valdez 5'11" | PG Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM 5’11 PG Volcano Vista 2022 (#12PHNM 2022) – Valdez spent the week either driving to the rim or splashing threes. VV does a remarkable job of moving the ball and the 5’11 PG was the benefactor. Valdez knocked down threes from the corner and wing, finishing off a ton of good possessions with made 3’s.
Oscar McCoy Oscar McCoy 5'8" | PG State NM 5’8 PG Volcano Vista 2022 (#39PHNM 2022) – McCoy did not take a ton of shots this week, but when he did, he made them count. He made at least one three-pointer in every game, and like Valdez capitalized off the great ball movement on his team. A floor spacer, the senior PG was accurate from outside the line providing the Vikings with yet another outside threat.
