The games were played at 4 different schools, (Albuquerque high, Atrisco Heritage, Cibola, and Sanida High) with the Semifinals and Championship game held at West Mesa High School. The tournament had a number of significant freshmen performers, in this article, we take a look at the top freshmen from the event.
Latavious Morris Latavious Morris 5'8" | PG Atrisco Heritage | 2025 State NM 5’7 PG Atrisco Heritage (#4) (featured image) – That sound you hear, is the sound of teams groaning at the fact that Morris has three more years to terrorize opponents. The PG was spectacular this week, showing the ability to get to the rim and knock down shots from behind the arc. He’s not just a regular shooter either. Morris has major wiggle, complete with a variety of COD’s and stop and starts. He was the leading scorer for AH in both the opening round game and the semifinal contest.
Kenyon Aguino Kenyon Aguino 6'7" | PF Volcano Vista | 2025 State #257 Nation NM 6’5 PF Volcano Vista (#2) – Aguino went to work in the low block this week. The PF showed terrific feet, a variety of counters, and the ability to finish over his left shoulder. His post-game can only be described as advanced as he proved that even though he is only a freshman, he commands a double team when he catches the ball on the block.
Remy Albrecht 5’6 PG Cleveland – Albrecht only scored two points in the game I watched, but considering he’s only in the 8th grade, I decided to add him to the list. He is entertaining, plays with confidence, and has major wiggle. Just the fact that he was out on the floor competing against bigger, stronger older players shows how good he is. Add in his handle and shooting and it’s easy to see why he’s a prospect to keep an eye on.
Cameron Dyer Cameron Dyer 6'3" | SG La Cueva | 2025 State NM 6’1 SG LaCueva (#5) – I thought Dyer was solid in the game I saw. He didn’t get a ton of shots, but he displayed a good handle and was able to hold his own defensively. LaCueva has several talented upperclassmen, but Dyer is definitely a young player that should be on the radar.
Hudson Brown Hudson Brown 5'9" | PG Volcano Vista | 2025 State NM 5’8 PG Volcano Vista – When the next rankings come out expect Brown to be in them. A son of a coach, it’s easy to talk about his high IQ, but he also showed the ability to defend, and shoot the basketball. The Vikings are loaded, so any freshmen, is going to have to wait their turn, the fact that he sees minutes goes to show the potential of the 5’8 PG.
