The games will be played at 4 different schools, (Albuquerque high, Atrisco Heritage, Cibola, and Sanida High). The event is an excellent opportunity to lay eyes on several prospects. In this article, we preview some of the players to watch at the tournament.
Colby Wade Colby Wade 6'5" | PF Atrisco | 2022 State NM 6’5 PF Atrisco Heritage 2022 (#7PHNM 2022) – Film study has me intrigued. Powerful frame, explosive athlete, should be fun to see Wade play up close and personal. Length, fluidity, and range are the things I’m looking to identify this week. AH opens up with Manzano on Tuesday.
Sean Johnson Sean Johnson 6'6" | SF Sandia | 2022 State NM 6’6 SF Sandia 2022 (#4PHNM 2022) – Athletic versatile forward. I firmly expect Johnson to have the ability to dominate a game in this tournament. The wing is athletic and scores well in transition. He could be most effective on the defensive end, with his ability to defend multiple positions.
Jakwon Hill Jakwon Hill 6'1" | CG Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM 6’1 CG Volcano Vista 2022 (#3PHNM 2022) – Hill will be expected to be one of the top players at this event. The smooth combo has helped VV get off to an undefeated start. I’m familiar with a lot of his skill set because of his time on the Prep Hoops Circuit. Interested in gauging some of his intangibles, like energy, attitude, and competitiveness.
Judah Casaus Judah Casaus 6'0" | SG Del Norte | 2023 State NM 6’0 SG Del Norte 2023 (#8PHNM 2023) – Excited to check out one of the top bucket getters in the state. Casaus has put up some monster games en route to averaging over 22 per game for the Knights. Whenever I’m evaluating a scorer, I want to know, “How does he get his”. I’ll be looking to find that out about Casaus this week.
Exodus Ayers Exodus Ayers 6'2" | CG La Cueva | 2023 NLG 6’2 CG LaCueva 2022 (#1PHNM 2023) – Our top-ranked player in the class of 2023 will be taking the floor, and we will be there. Ayers is a dynamic combo with the ability to take over a game with his scoring, playmaking, and defensive instincts. Tournaments are made for players like this, Ayers is averaging almost 20 a game, so looking to see how far he can carry his squad.
