Continue ReadingWe’re now halfway through the 2020-21 season and it has given us a chance to get a feel for the current freshmen class. It’s been business as usual in regards to prospects in the MD/DC area as their are a number of players with promising futures. For this article, I’ll be briefly breaking down the Baltimore prospects included on this list.
Christian Thomas Christian Thomas 6'6" | SF C.E. King | 2025 State #325 Nation TX | 6’5 | SEED School
Thomas has been the center point for SEED this season and is proving himself as a versatile wing/forward with ball skills who can fill up the stat sheet. Thomas has recorded a handful of double-double performances and while scoring from all three levels, has also been counted on as a guy who can make players around him better. His size and skill set make for an intriguing young prospect.
Tyler Jackson Tyler Jackson 6'2" | CG St. Frances | 2025 #40 Nation MD | 5’11 | St. Frances
It’s extremely difficult to earn time in the rotation at St. Frances as a freshman, which speaks to the confidence that head coach Nick Myles has in his young guard as one of the first players off the bench. Jackson is a fearless, scrappy guard who uses his quickness to get into the paint off the dribble. He’s a confident scorer once he gets there and someone who isn’t afraid to strap up full court defensively.
Brandon Holmes Brandon Holmes 6'9" | C Mount St. Joseph | 2025 State MD | 6’7 | Mount St. Joseph
Holmes has the unique size for a freshman at 6-foot-7. You can tell he’s still maturing and growing into his frame, but there’s still a chance he could get to 6-foot-9 when it’s all said and done. Holmes is a smart passer from the high post and shows good foot work on his touches on the block. He’s been an impact for MSJ’s JV team and will be a building block in head coach Pat Clatchey’s frontcourt for years to come.
Joe Green | 6’2 | Mount St. Joseph
Green is a tough-nosed guard who can play on or off the ball offensively. He’s a dependable shooter off the catch and one who embraces contact on his takes to the rim in half court or in transition. Green and Holmes have been staples for the Gael’s junior varsity squad, who has been routinely successful this season.
Jeff Exinor Jeff Exinor 6'4" | SF McDonogh | 2025 State #272 Nation MD | 6’4 | McDonogh
Exinor is another dual-sport stud for McDonogh as he already is garnering high-major attention for his skills on the football field. He uses his physical tools on the hardwood to be a multi-positional defender, a strong finisher through contact on drives and a rebounding presence at both ends. Exinor has soft touch on his jumper and can fill it up from beyond the arc with time and space. McDonogh has a long list of prospects from the past who have been two-sport standouts and Exinor has a chance to be somewhere at the top based off his skills and upside.
Jordan Hammond Jordan Hammond 5'10" | PG Loyola Blakefield | 2025 State MD | 5’11 | Loyola
Hammond got some time on the varsity team in summer league, which allowed me to et an early look at the 5-foot-11 guard. Loyola’s JV team has asserted themselves at the top of the MIAA/BCL and Hammond is a big reason why. His ability as a combo guard to score and make plays make for a dynamic option on the perimeter. He’ll be a big piece for the future of the Dons’ program.
Quron Elliot | 5’7 | Loyola
Elliot has been the floor general for the 14-1 Dons team and is taking form of being the point guard long term once he gets to the varsity level. He provides balance as a facilitator, distributor or scorer depending on what the given game plan calls for. He’s quick on the ball and makes good decisions when operating in space.
Marlon Williams Marlon Williams 5'10" | CG Loyola Blakefield | 2025 State MD | 5’10 | Loyola
Similar to Elliot, Williams can find his opportunities come within the flow of the offense. Williams prides himself in his ability to impact the game at both ends. He can matchup against either guard spot where he provides valuable ball pressure and good anticipation in passing lanes as an off ball defender.
Omarr Smith Omarr Smith 6'3" | SG City | 2025 State #319 Nation MD | 6’3 | Curley
Smith is one of the top shooters in this class locally. He already poses solid size as an off-ball guard and shows advanced shot mechanics even when coming off screens for quick shots. We’re seeing pure shooters are at a premium in today’s game. If Smith can continue to polish his overall game, he’ll be an interesting prospect to monitor in the summer with Team Thrill
