Some players already have a name for their selves or making a name for themselves. This list is some of the top performers from week 1 who are adding stock to their name and showing people why they should be on the lookout for these players this season.
Mason Strong Mason Strong 5'11" | PG Omaha North | 2022 State NE |6’0 G| Omaha North/Lincoln Supreme 17U National 1
Didn’t play the best competition last week but nevertheless still ball! Dropping 33 points against Bryan and 23 against Gretna. While also had an early game against Central this week where he poured in 15 points also he continue to put up some points. The senior light it up from deep against his first game while getting to the bucket and line his second game. some additional stats were 5 rebounds one game and 2 steals in each of the games, did have quite a few turnovers but expect to tighten it up as the season goes on. Already #1 point guard he added some positive stock to state ranking as he moves forward.
Dakarai Davis Dakarai Davis 5'10" | CG Omaha Burke | 2023 State NE |5’9 CG| Omaha Burke/EYCE Elite 16U
Has the potential to be the top player on his team every time he plays. The 5’9 junior guard plays big grabbing 8 rebounds his first game and 5 rebounds the second game. A tight game against Benson his first game where they came up short losing by two but was able to pour in 29 points as they fought all game long. Was able to bounce back with a Win against Northwest as he help his team with 14 points. Already a good scorer, rebounder, and passer for a junior. Cutting down on his turnovers will help him down the stretch of the season but as for now, his stock looks to be upward if he plays these numbers consistently. It won’t be long till college start to notice. The next game is against North Star should be able to continue his already good campaign against the Navigators.
Rylan Smith Rylan Smith 6'1" | PG Lincoln Southwest | 2023 State NE |6’1 G| Lincoln Southwest/OSA 3SSB 16U
The junior is already ranked number 1 point guard in the state, but can stock can always rise, and over the weekend his rose. Rylan doesn’t shy from any moment, the guard’s first game he dropped 21 points against Papio-LaVista while going along with 3 steals and shooting 88% from the charity line. In his second game, he drops 18 points but also snags 6 rebounds and dished out 6 assists. Proving that the junior guard is versatile as they come. Playing around a lot of senior help will result in high confidence and a nice amount assist for the floor general. College scouts haven’t noticed him yet they definitely will I feel this season. His’s team next opponent is Omaha South but is at home so I see a good showing for the home crowd.
David Harmon David Harmon 6'3" | CG Millard North | 2022 State NE |6’1 CG| Millard North/ OSA 17U National Beck
Not in the Top 20 ranking but definitely should be after his first week. The senior is without doubt the glue for his squad. In the first game, he was able to rack up 11 points on 56% shooting while guarding multiple positions and grabbing some boards to help his squad get the win over Lincoln High. Next, he came out and erupt for 24 points on 67% shooting against a good Omaha Westside team. The senior guard was able to the rack and draw contact which resulted in shooting nine free throws and only missing one. He’s coming into his own and finding space on the floor while playing alongside other good players on his squad. Shows up when his number is called and does what needs to be done while on the court. Stock definitely going to continue to grow and is needed as Mustangs look to get back to that big stage. The next squad he playing against is Papillion-Lavista who is coming of lost and the game is home so look for more added to his senior campaign.
Brady Christiansen Brady Christiansen 6'6" | PF Lincoln Pius | 2022 State NE |6’6 F| Lincoln Pius X/Lincoln Supreme 17U National 1
Already committed to Washburn College doesn’t mean stock cant rise. Having a stellar start to his senior season, the 6’6 forward has helped his squad off to a 2-0 start. A monster on the boards snagging 13 rebounds in his first game against Fremont and 14 in his second game against North Platte has Brady leading Class A in rebounding starting off the season. Also contributing scoring averaging 11 points per game so far with 4 assist the first game and 3 the second. Cutting down on his turnover will help him raise his stock even more in the rankings and help his team even more in every aspect. His next game is against Bellevue West the toughest opponent his squad has faced this season. Be nice to see if Brady is able to continue his dominance on boards as he and Kyle battle it out.
Chandler Meeks Chandler Meeks 6'1" | CG Omaha Westside | 2022 State NE |6’2 CG| Omaha Westside/Nebraska Supreme 17U UAA
A proven guard but adding onto his stock the efficient guard makes the right play and takes care of the ball while on the floor. A staple for the Warriors the guard helps contribute with averaging 9 points per game in both games. One game was a win another in a loss but the effort was played in both. He helps out more than just scoring he averages 5.5 assists per game helping teammates get buckets while also having no turnover the ball at all this season. With 4 rebounds per game to go with this season, he shows why he an important piece to the Warriors going far this season. The next opponent they are facing is Norfolk which could be a good bounce-back win for Westside as they lost last game against Millard North.
