Continue ReadingThis Tuesday night has the potential to be the game of the week and one of the best regular season games of the season so far. The 3-0 La Cueva Bears will host the 3-0 Volcano Vista Hawks at home this Tuesday night December 7th at 7:00 pm from La Cueva High School.
Both Schools come into this game undefeated at 3-0 records to begin the season led by Coach Brian Joyce from La Cueva and Coach Greg Brown from Volcano Vista.
The La Cueva Bears defeated a really good Atrisco Heritage team on the road in their season opener 57-43 Tuesday November 30th to open the season with a statement win. Two nights later Thursday December 2nd, they had their first home game of the season vs Hope Christian and won 65-45 to improve to 2-0. Than their final game of the opening week was this past Saturday winning on the road in Las Cruces vs Organ Mountain 65-56 to end the week 3-0.
The Volcano Vista Hawks also found similar success during their first week of the new season. Their season opener Tuesday November 30th, they defeated Rio Grande high school at home 74-30 to start 1-0. Two nights later Thursday December 2nd, they defeated Albuquerque High School in a blowout win 102-55 to improve to 2-0. Than to close out the weekend, they traveled on the road to Clovis High School and defeated the Wildcats 74-34 to start this season at 3-0.
This game Tuesday night versus these two schools will have plenty of star power and talent throughout the game. For La Cueva, they’ll be led by Exodus Ayers Exodus Ayers 6'2" | CG La Cueva | 2023 NLG who is averaging 18.3 points per game and is one of the top players in NM. Other guard Josiah Guliford will be a player to watch from his great season opener contributing 14 points vs Atrisco Heritage. He is a good shooter and will help Exodus Ayers Exodus Ayers 6'2" | CG La Cueva | 2023 NLG direct the offense. This team also has several scorers on this team such as Cedarius Yates who averaged 11.7 points per game last week and Gabe Trujillo who averaged 13.0 points per game with 5.7 rebounds per game. Expect them to have a nice impact vs Volcano Vista. Isaiah Denetclaw Isaiah Denetclaw 6'3" | SG La Cueva | 2023 State NM will also be an x-fa cor with his shooting from long range. Deven Dyer will also bring in toughness and energy for the Bears. Freshman Cameron Dyer Cameron Dyer 6'3" | SG La Cueva | 2025 State NM is also more than capable of stepping into the game and sparking the offense against a deep Volcano Vista Roster.
For the Volcano Vista Hawks they are led by Jakwon Hill Jakwon Hill 6'1" | CG Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM who is also one of the states top players. He’s coming having 22 points vs Rio Grande and 19 points vs Albuquerque High School. He is a player that can take over this game. Kaden Valdez Kaden Valdez 5'11" | PG Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM is a great shooter and scorer for the Hawks coming off 17 points this past Saturday in a win vs Clovis. Expect him to get many open looks set up by his teammates. Point Guard Oscar McCoy Oscar McCoy 5'8" | PG State NM is the engine to this team and is coming off his best game this season on the road vs Clovis. He had 16 points on 5/9 shooting from three point range. Big man Sean Alter Sean Alter 6'9" | PF Volcano Vista | 2023 State NM will be a huge factor and came off having 23 points and 7 rebounds in the teams win vs Albuquerque High School. Expect Sean to play a big role around the paint on both sides of the ball. Jaden Malone has been one of the team most consistent players who does everything for the Hawks with his scoring, shooting, rebounding and passing. Expect him to impact the game in various ways Tuesday night. Kieran Cordova and Tyler Martinez will spark some energy and long range shooting off the bench which makes Volcano Vista one of the deepest rosters in NM. Anthony Gonzales can also score the ball and shoot from long range. Freshman Hudson Brown Hudson Brown 5'9" | PG Volcano Vista | 2025 State NM and Kenyon Aguino Kenyon Aguino 6'7" | PF Volcano Vista | 2025 State #257 Nation NM both played a nice role so far this season and expect them to continue to get varsity experience in a huge matchup vs La Cueva this Tuesday night.
