The big time names came out to play and I had the ability to watch the Junction City and Topeka High game in person which was a great atmosphere for hoops. Let’s round out the notables from a jam packed December 7th.
Zaid Dajani Zaid Dajani 6'4" | CG Olathe Northwest | 2022 State KS , 6’4 SG, Olathe Northwest, 2022 (Pictured): One of the top scorers in the Sunflower league and future Washburn Ichabod got off to a roaring start dropping 28 points in a big win over Piper. Efficient as normal, the guard knocked down perimeter shots, got to his spots off the bounce, and had crafty finishes. Had a great battle with fellow premier wing scorer Jaron Briggs Jaron Briggs 6'4" | CG Piper | 2022 State KS Jr. who had 23 points.
Emmitt Jueneman Emmitt Jueneman 6'1" | SF Hanover | 2022 State KS , 6’3 Guard, Hanover, 2022: The athletic guard from Hanover had a 23 point outing. The springy wing/guard player killed it in transition and was really effective off the bounce. Expect a lot of scoring for the rest of the season from Jueneman. His game continues to expand on the offensive side of the floor.
Eli Shetlar Eli Shetlar 6'4" | SG Andover | 2023 State KS , 6’4 SG, Andover, 2023: Nailed a couple of big early threes to get things rolling for Andover and finished with 17 in the ball game. The lenghty and sharp shooting Shetlar set the tone for an Andover team with big aspirations and got a nice win over Campus. Shetlar’s continued growth from a knock down shooter to an overall play maker continues highlighted with his great alley oop pass for a dunk to fellow 2023 G stand out BJ Redic BJ Redic 6'2" | SF Andover | 2023 State KS .
Gunnar Ball, 6’2 G, Perry-Lecompton, 2023: Found a way to drop 20 points in a game with a weird flow to it and made some big plays late in the ball game to keep Perry at arms distance from Ft Scott. Ball has has a solid 2 game stretch and his importance to Perry’s success has been highlighted early on in the season through 2 games.
Will Gavin Will Gavin 6'1" | CG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2022 State KS , 6’1 PG, St Thomas Aquinas, 2022: The gritty and talented point guard is starting to get into the flow of things after an extended football season and coming off of a hoops injury last high school season. After a 5 for 9 shooting performance and finishing with 13 points in the ball game last night in Aquinas’s win, you can see the burst and rhythm coming back. Bodes well for an Aquinas squad who is vastly improved. A great rebounder as a PG, grabbed 6 in the game as well.
Mike Collins, 6’4 F, Shawnee Mission Northwest, 2023: Had a big time double double in a win over Shawnee Mission North. Collins is a fast rising player and a guy who will be on a ton of radars by seasons end. An early statement game for Collins and SMNW, he finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds in the ball game.
