The Seat Brothers open strong
Edmond Memorial enters the year as the top ranked team by the 6A Coaches. They backed that up with a pair of opening week wins. On Tuesday, it was blistering shooting performance that anchored their 81-52 win over Norman. Senior brothers JV Seat JV Seat 6'3" | SF Edmond Memorial | 2022 State #250 Nation OK and Gabe Seat Gabe Seat 5'11" | PG Edmond Memorial | 2022 State OK connected on a combined 10 three pointers in that victory.
The Bulldogs followed that up by grinding out an overtime victory on the road against rivals Edmond North. JV Seat JV Seat 6'3" | SF Edmond Memorial | 2022 State #250 Nation OK once again played a key role in that win. This time it was by finding teammate Will Cain Will Cain 6'6" | F Edmond Memorial | 2022 OK for the go ahead bucket in the final moments of overtime. The always loaded Edmond Open will keep the Bulldogs tested for another week, including the potential for a rematch against North.
Memorial stays Perfect
Class 5A State Title Contenders improved to 5-0 on the season this past week. The big win for them came on Thursday night as they hosted Little Rock Central from Arkansas. They won 72-54 and were powered by junior sharpshooter Seth Pratt Seth Pratt 6'3" | SG Memorial | 2023 State OK . The 6 foot 3 guard scored 20 points on an efficient 8-11 shooting performance from the field, which included 3-5 from beyond the arc. It’ll be a tough week ahead for Pratt and the Chargers if they want to stay undefeated, with a potential State Tournament like feel at the Joe Lawson Tournament in Norman.
Ardmore Still Bombing Away
Last season, the Ardmore Tigers rode hot shooting to a semifinals appearance in the Class 5A State Tournament. If their game against Douglass was any indication, more of the same can be expected from the southern Oklahoma team this year. Senior guard Dion Brown hit 7 three pointers in their 77-58 win over OKC Douglass. 6 of those three pointers came in the opening frame. Brown and the Tigers will have another big week ahead in the 405 as they’ll also be in the aforementioned Joe Lawson Tournament.
Super Sophomores lead Moore
Moore got off to a 2-0 victory by winning a pair of games against their school districts rivals, Westmoore and Southmoore. Senior two sport star Marcus Dockins Marcus Dockins 6'2" | PF Moore | 2022 State OK leads the Moore team with his outstanding athletic ability, but he’s also supported by two sophomores that showed up big in the Southmoore victory. Sophomore Lions guard Chiante Tramble is one of the most skilled and efficient players in the state. He showed those traits by racking up 24 points and handing out 8 assists in the 67-66 win over the Sabercats. Joining Tramble at Moore is athletic sophomore Darian Grant. The 6 foot 4 high ceiling wing scored 20 of his own points in that victory.
Moore posted a 14-9 record and an Area appearance last season. With Dockins and their super sophomore duo, Moore looks poised to build off that and be a potential Class 6A State Tournament team. They’ll get a chance to keep that momentum going in Tahlequah at a tournament that includes fellow 6A squads, Bixby and Jenks.
Collins soars in Eastern Oklahoma
Terry Collins was a key member of the 1995 Oklahoma State State Final Four squad, now his children are making a mark on athletics in Oklahoma. His daughter Taylen Collins was one of the best players in Oklahoma while at Muldrow and was a first team All Big 12 Freshman Team member at Oklahoma State this past year. Tyren Collins is a 6’7 juco prospect at NEO A&M in Miami, Oklahoma. And now Class of 2023 Trenden Collins Trenden Collins 6'1" | SF Muldrow | 2023 State OK is staring for Muldrow. The athletic guard scored 19 points in a victory over Spiro, and showed big time athletic ability with the highlights posted to twitter of him attacking the rim. Collins is another example of the depth in Oklahoma’s loaded Class of 2023.
