Tyirece Waits (6’1 2022 G, Osseo)- Tyirece may have had the most impressive night of any prospect, as the explosive, attack-oriented guard was finding plenty of success getting to the rack for Osseo. He’s so explosive off two feet, and that showed as he had a pair of transition dunks, while also hanging in the air to complete a handful of tough finishes through contact. When he gets a full head of steam there’s not much you can do to stop him, as he’s able to stay under control while moving at full speed to go up balanced and finish in a variety of ways. Tyirece also showed that he can create turnovers both with his on-ball defense, and with his timing to jump passing lanes and get out in transition.
Boden Kapke Boden Kapke 6'11" | C Holy Family | 2023 State #153 Nation MN (6’11 2023 C, Holy Family)- When Boden shoots the ball as well as he did last night, Holy Family is going to be so tough to stop in Class AA. At 6’10-’6’11, Boden was handling the ball for his team at times, and on one occasion he just pulled up from college range and drained a three before jogging back on defense. If you put a smaller defender on him, Boden showed that he can create a seal for an easy entry pass, and then power his way to the rim. Put someone with size on him and he showed that he can create off the dribble and pull-up for a mid-range jumper. Kapke is more athletic than he was last year, and is playing with a ton of confidence heading into the season.
Will Kinsey Will Kinsey 6'5" Spring Lake Park | 2022 MN (6’5 2022 F, Spring Lake Park)- Will got the start for SLP, and was an impact player with his effort on both ends of the floor. He was scrapping for loose balls, chasing guys down to poke the ball free from behind, and hustling for offensive boards to keep possessions alive. Showed he can handle the ball in transition, and also attack the basket from the wing to either get to the rim and finish, or dump it off to a teammate on the block. Will also proved to be a threat with his jumper, as he drained a corner three and pulled up from around the free throw line to hit a mid-range shot.
Trey Smith Trey Smith 6'7" | SF Osseo | 2023 State MN (6’5 2023 SF, Osseo)- Coming up from JV, Trey figures to play a key role for Osseo this year. The explosive wing was making plays on both ends of the floor, and showed some rim protecting abilities with a pair of stuffs inside. His timing to go up and get the ball without fouling was impressive. Offensively he showed some nice body control attacking the basket and finishing through contact, as well as a fight to pull in some offensive rebounds and go right back up to finish. Trey capped it all off with an effortless two handed slam in transition.
Judah Land Judah Land 6'10" | C Holy Family | 2022 State MN (6’9 2022 PF/C, Holy Family)- Really liked Judah’s passing ability as a big man, as he was kicking it out to open shooters, or using his height on the perimeter to see over the top of his man and deliver some high-low passes in to teammate Boden Kapke Boden Kapke 6'11" | C Holy Family | 2023 State #153 Nation MN . Defensively he stands out as a shot blocker, as he moves well at his size and has a quick burst off the floor to go up and swat shots off the backboard. Also liked his effort to chase down guards from behind and block them without fouling. Offensively he showed he can establish deep position and score with a quick turn over either shoulder.
Logan Kinsey Logan Kinsey 6'6" | PF Spring Lake Park | 2022 State MN (6’6 2022 SF, Spring Lake Park)- The MSU-Moorhead commit was putting on a show with his dunking ability, as he was leaking out in transition or cutting to the rim for dunks all game long. He’s more than just an athlete though as he has a turnaround jumper that’s nearly unguardable at this level. Logan showed he can catch the ball on the move facing away from the rim, and all in one motion he squares up and elevates to get off a clean look that seems to go in more often than not. He averaged 9.4 ppg as a junior, but has the look of a player that can go for 20+ on any given night this winter.
Jamal Woods (6’2 2023 W, Fridley)- The junior wing made a nice impact for Fridley against Osseo, as he was fearless attacking the basket. A long and lanky wing who can get past his initial defender off the dribble, Jamal had a few nice finishes and also pulled up for a tough make from the three point line. I liked his fight on the glass as well, as Fridley was outmatched in terms of size, but he was still competing for everything that came off the rim.
