Player Evaluations
Dylan Doss Dylan Doss 5'10" | PG Heritage Christian | 2023 State IN (Heritage Christian) – 5’10″ 2023 PG: Doss is a solid young guard whose athleticism is off the charts. He has great quickness, and this leads to fast-break buckets and steals in the Heritage Christian press. Doss also made some nice passes to the open man off of his drives. The best part of Doss’s game might very well be his catch and shoot though as he knocked down 2 in this one. He is going to continue to improve playing alongside Colvin, so he will be interesting to watch in the future.
Kyron Kaopuiki Kyron Kaopuiki 6'3" | SG Homestead | 2023 State IN (Homestead) – 6’2″ 2023 SG: Kaopuiki was the best second-option for the Spartans behind Loyer in this one. Kyron did not miss either of his shots as he was able to get to the rim and draw contact multiple times. He also hit a huge three late to push Homestead’s lead out to 8 to answer a Carmel run. Kaopuiki also was one of the Spartans’ best rebounders. He would finish with 8 points and 6 boards, and he is going to be a key piece for Homestead this season.
Matthew King (Hammond Central) – 6’1″ 2024 SG: King is a new guard for Hammond Central, and he showcased his three-point shooting in this one. He is a confident shooter and does not hesitate to let it fly as he hit four of them in this one. King would finish with 18 for the Wolves, and he took a lot of pressure off of Jordan Woods Jordan Woods 6'2" | PG Hammond Central | 2023 State IN . An established second option like King could be key for Hammond Central this season.
Jaron Tibbs Jaron Tibbs 6'4" | SF Cathedral | 2023 State IN (Indianapolis Cathedral) – 6’4″ 2023 SG: Tibbs was the leading scorer for Cathedral as he put his athleticism on display all game. He is a scrappy player who isn’t afraid to get inside and scrap for buckets in the lane. He also seems to just hang in the air when he leaves his feet. He is a top-level athlete who already holds D1 football offers, but he has a lot of potential on the basketball court as well.
Logan Webb Logan Webb 6'3" | SG Linton-Stockton | 2023 State IN (Linton-Stockton) – 6’3″ 2023 SG: Webb struggled early on due to the physical defense from Attucks, but in the second half, he looked like a brand new player. Webb came out of the locker room knocking down shots from everywhere on the court, scoring 13 of his 16 in the 2nd half. He can get hot in a hurry, and when he is hot, he can hit from literally anywhere. Webb also added 6 rebounds in his performance to push the Miners over Attucks.
Josh Whack (Carmel) – 6’1″ 2022 PG: Whack is one of the best defensive guards in the entire state, and he was tasked with the near-impossible as he was one on one with Homestead’s Fletcher Loyer Fletcher Loyer 6'4" | SG Homestead | 2022 State #108 Nation IN for the entire game. Despite this, he was able to hold Loyer to just 1-6 from behind the arc, and Whack came up with three steals on the offensive end. He also hit a couple of threes late in the second half to keep Carmel relatively in the game. Whack was one of the few bright spots for Carmel on the offensive end of the floor.
Ashton Williamson Ashton Williamson 6'2" | PG Gary 21st Century | 2023 State #287 Nation IN (Gary 21st) – 6’4″ 2023 SG: Williamson had one of the best all-around performances during this shootout as he would finish with 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists. Williamson sees the court very well and he likes to push the tempo and keep his eyes up for the open man. This leads to easy buckets for Gary 21st. He is also incredibly smooth with the ball in his hand. He is one of the top 2023 players, and he will be playing D1 basketball, no question about it.
Jordan Woods Jordan Woods 6'2" | PG Hammond Central | 2023 State IN (Hammond Central) – 6’2″ 2023 SG: Woods struggled shooting the ball in this one at just 2-9, but with his teammates knocking down shots, Woods turned into a major facilitator. He would finish with a near double-double with 4 points, 8 rebounds, and 10 assists. Woods is a great athlete whose playstyle is much more suited for being the facilitator, so we saw what Woods could look like at the next level here in Brownsburg.
