Player Evaluations
Myles Colvin Myles Colvin 6'5" | SG Heritage Christian | 2023 State #51 Nation IN (Heritage Christian) – 6’6″ 2023 SF: Colvin is a very athletic player who can fly. He showed this in the third quarter with two monster poster dunks which were some of the most athletic plays that I have seen from a high school player. He also shot it well in this one. After a mediocre first half, he had probably the best half of basketball that I had seen from him which led to a 21 point performance with four made threes. It will be interesting to see how much he can grow as a player before leaving for Purdue in two years.
Tayshawn Comer Tayshawn Comer 6'0" | PG Cathedral | 2022 State #226 Nation IN (Indianapolis Cathedral) – 6’1″ 2022 PG: Comer is an Eastern Kentucky commit who was in foul trouble for a lot of this one. He is so aggressive with the ball in his hands that this can lead to offensive fouls, and this results in a lot of foul trouble for Tayshawn. He can shoot the ball well and facilitate an offense with a ton of talent, but he needs to stay on the floor. Comer finished with 10 points and 2 assists on just 3-12 shooting.
Jaxon Edwards Jaxon Edwards 6'6" | SF Cathedral | 2022 State IN (Indianapolis Cathedral) – 6’6″ 2022 SF: Edwards, like Comer, struggled shooting in this one. He would go just 1-8 from the floor, but his one make was one that make any Murray State fan smile. He crossed over and hit a step-back three from the top of the key with a hand in his face. Edwards is a next-level athlete, which he showed with two monster dunks, and this will be showcased in the Murray State offense next season.
Elmore James Elmore James 6'4" | SG Brush | 2022 State OH IV (Brush-OH) – 6’4″ 2022 SG: James was the best player on the floor the entire day in Brownsburg. The Ohio commit would finish with 25 points on 11-18 from the floor. He won’t miss when he gets to his spot on the floor. He also loves to back down his defender on the baseline and hit a turn-around fade-away jumper. James was very impressive here, and he should be a player to watch in the MAC in the coming years.
Fletcher Loyer Fletcher Loyer 6'4" | SG Homestead | 2022 State #108 Nation IN (Homestead) – 6’4″ 2022 SG: Loyer was amazing on Saturday with coach Matt Painter in attendance to see him. He would score 25 of his team’s 48 points on 8-15, and he was able to get basically anything he wanted going towards the rim against a tough Carmel club with three Division 1 players. Loyer can finish through basically everything which will be great in the Big 10. Purdue is getting an absolute stud in Loyer.
Jalen Quinn Jalen Quinn 6'3" | PG Tuscola | 2022 State #136 Nation IL (Tuscola-IL) – 6’3″ 2022 PG: Quinn dropped a 30 ball in the second game of the day with 30 points and 8 boards for Tuscola. The Loyola-Chicago commit is aggressive and likes to get going downhill, and his touch around the rim is some of the best that I have seen. He struggled shooting from the outside at just 1-5, but he can definitely stroke it from out there. Quinn should have the ability to make a pretty immediate impact for the Ramblers.
Cael Vanderbush Cael Vanderbush 6'7" | PF Plainfield | 2022 State IN (Plainfield) – 6’6″ 2022 PF: Vanderbush is an Iowa football recruit who showed out in the first game of the day. He would score 20 of Plainfield’s 43 in their narrow one-point loss to Brownsburg. Vanderbush sees the floor very well, and he looks to pass first. However, he could basically score at ease against the slower Brownsburg bigs. He is a fundamental player, and his impact on the football field will be fun to watch for the Big Ten runner-ups, Iowa Hawkeyes.
Antwone Woolfolk Antwone Woolfolk 6'8" | C Brush | 2022 State OH (Brush-OH) – 6’8″ 2022 PF: Woolfolk recently signed to play at Rutgers, and his physicality in the paint looks to be a big reason why. At 6’8″, he was able to push people around in this one, but he also showed some nice footwork on post moves down low. He is definitely going to need to continue bulking up or fine-tune his jumper to play in the Big 10, but he had a nice 8 points, 11 rebounds performance on Saturday.
