Malvern Prep defeated O’Hara 60-53 and a superstar is emerging within the Friars program.
Below is a look at a host of the college prospects that took the court yesterday for the Malvern Prep vs. Cardinal O’Hara game.
Malvern Prep:
Tyler Lauder – 6’8” / Senior / Philly Pride Gold / Small Forward: Lauder (11 points on Saturday) is committed to Babson, and it is easy to see why this interior prospect will suit up at the next level. He plays with a high motor at both ends of the court. On offense he owns a nice “mid-range and in” skill set as well as soft scoring touch. At the other end, he is a rim protector and a force on the glass.
Hayden Pegg – 6’4” / Junior / 610 City / Shooting Guard: Pegg is a fluid athlete who splashed home threes, mid-range jumpers and free throws on his way to 11 points. The trifecta of a large wingspan, good positioning work and a nose for the ball make Pegg a solid rebounder.
Chase Reardon – 6’0” / Senior / Wing: A high level baseball prospect, on Saturday Reardon proved once again that he is a legit college basketball recruit as well. He drained multiple three pointers, displayed a high basketball IQ and solid handles.
Joe Vandergeest – 5’11” / Senior / 610 City / Shooting Guard: A high energy shooting guard who plays with next level intensity, Vandergeest is a knock down shooter from any spot on the floor. He owns textbook mechanics and a quick trigger.
Ryan Williams Ryan Williams 6'3" | SG Malvern Prep | 2024 State PA – 6’1” / Sophomore / Philly Pride National UAA / Point Guard: After a monster summer with Philly Pride, we expected big season from Williams and so far, he has not disappointed — 16 ppg. The wiry scoring point guard can beat a defender for a bucket in so many ways. On Saturday Williams was the leading scorer for MP with 15 points. Williams has a solid feel for the game as well, so he knows when to facilitate for others.
Cardinal O’Hara:
Josh Coulanges Josh Coulanges 5'9" | PG Cardinal O'Hara | 2023 State PA – 6’0” / Junior / K-Low Elite / Point Guard: Coulanges led O’Hara in scoring last season (10 ppg.) and his 3-level scoring was impressive again on Saturday. With more talent around him this season, Coulanges was not forcing his scoring action and facilitated for his teammates. If his distribution skills continue to improve Coulanges will make for a solid college point guard.
Maasai Harris Maasai Harris 6'0" | CG Collegium Charter | 2022 State PA – 6’0” / Senior / Point Guard: The speed at which Harris (8.9 ppg in 2020-21) plays the game is a real problem for defenders. Whether it is going coast to coast, moving without the ball, or simply changing direction on a dribble-drive, he makes the other players on the court look like they are playing in concrete sneakers. Harris (7 pts on Saturday) owns a nice jumper as well.
Hunter Johnson Hunter Johnson 6'2" | CG Cardinal O'Hara | 2024 PA – 6’1” / Sophomore / We R1 / Combo Guard: A part time starter as a freshman, on Saturday Johnson really showed significant improvement in his all-around skill set. He scored 13 points and made it look easy. He dialed up a couple of threes and scored at the rim through contact. When he got foul calls, Johnson went to the line and knocked down the free throws. He is a prospect to watch this winter.
Pearse McGuinn Pearse McGuinn 6'8" | PF Cardinal O'Hara | 2024 State PA – 6’5” / Sophomore / K-Low Elite / Shooting Guard: McGuinn has the reputation of being a pure shooter who can hit from well behind the arc. He did not hit any threes on Saturday, but one can see that he owns a smooth stroke. For a tall and long prospect, he is a surprisingly dependable ball handler.
Izaiah Pasha Izaiah Pasha 6'4" | CG Cardinal O'Hara | 2023 State PA – 6’5” / Junior / Team Final Red / Wing: Pasha is one of the most intriguing 2023 wing in Pennsylvania. This long and super athletic prospect is a slasher style player who thrives in the transition game. On Saturday, Pasha (15 points) also showed that he can score in the half-court and sprinkled in a made three for good measure.
Amir Speights Amir Speights 6'4" | PF Constitution | 2024 State PA – 6’4” / Sophomore / Philly Blue Magic / Wing: Speights (8 ppg in 2020-21) is a returning starter who is off to a fast start this season. On Saturday Speights drained two threes, played tenacious defense, and competed on the glass. He is another member of O’Hara’s superb 2024 class to watch this season.
