The Knights flexed their muscles from the opening tip and went on to win a commanding 81-44 victory. The Knights improved to 4-0 with the win while the Eagles fell to 0-2 on the season with the loss.
Here are some evaluations of the prospects that stood out throughout the contest:
Nick Jones | 6’1 | Parkville ’22
Jones was extremely impressive in his team’s win as he led with a game-high 21 points. The 6-foot-1 combo guard is electric in the open floor where he can allow his athleticism to surface and it was on display as he was on the finishing end of a two-handed lob and threw down a couple of one-handed dunks in transition. The most underrated part of Jones’ game is his overall feel. He simply knows what basketball play needs to be made and processes the game at a rapid rate. He crashes the offensive glass with regularity and is averaging nine rebounds per game on the season, which is excellent for a guard of his height and stature. I’d urge prep and JuCo programs to be all over him recruiting wise.
Sincere Barfield Sincere Barfield 5'11" | PG Patterson | 2024 State MD | 5’11 | Parkville ’24
Barfield is a 5-foot-11 point guard with a bullish build who uses it to his advantage on his way to the rim. He has a quick first step that allows him to get the edge and then depends on his strong frame to absorb contact and finish layups. Barfield usually tends to settle for a couple of tough mid-range shots every game, but last night he was determined to live in the paint and scored all of his 17 points from 10 feet and in or at the free-throw line.
Tysean Rodgers | 6’2 | Aberdeen ’23
Rodgers is a 6-foot-2 off ball guard who seems to have the tools to be an intriguing prospect going forward. The main concern is his overall motor and how consistent he can be on getting to the rim. He canned a three off the catch in the second half in hopes to spark some life into his team on top of completing a handful of strong rim attacks after beating his man off the bounce. Rodgers led Aberdeen with 16 points.
Caron Smith | 6’2 | Parkville ’23
Smith is a new face to the Parkville lineup this year and has wasted no time fitting in seamlessly next to Jones and Barfield. He supplies the floor with space thanks to his dependable three-point shot. He took advantage of the one open three he got last night, but did his damage in transition where he finished crafty right-handed layups on the left side of the rim as the trailer shot blocker was anticipating for him to go up on the right side. Smith also provided value with his on-ball defense. The junior contributed with 12 points in the win.
Ru Mubia | 6’3 | Aberdeen ’22
Mubia is one of the smaller forwards you’ll see in the area who can still find his way to impact the game. He doesn’t have much athleticism, but what he does have is a good feel around the rim to bait his defender with a series of pump fakes to free himself up for a better look. What caught my eye most about Mubia’s game last night is his vision at the top of the key as a passer. On multiple occasions he’d zip bounce passes in small windows to guards cutting back door. The pass got there every time on the dot, but his teammates had issues finishing with consistency. Mubia followed Rodgers with 13 points.
Emezie Egeonu Emezie Egeonu 6'6" | C Parkville | 2022 State MD | 6’6 | Parkville ’22
Egeonou is one of the more low maintenance senior bigs in the state, meaning that he doesn’t need sets that are specific to getting him the ball in order to impact the offensive end. He did a great job of running the floor and finding himself available for trailing layups, moved well along the baseline as guards drove to the rim and crashed the offensive glass relentlessly for second chance points. Egeonou also altered a handful of shots around the rim using his length and timing. Egenou finished with 12 points.
Kam Wylie | 6’7 | Parkville ’24
Wylie is an intriguing prospect to me given his size and length for his age. He still need polish in his overall game, but little by little I’m seeing progressions over time becoming more comfortable with his body. He can finish above the rim and score inside while also being a threat from the perimeter off the catch. He’s not a consistent three-point shooter yet, but has decent form on his shot and I’ve seen him rattle off a few over the last month or two. He can put the ball on the floor a couple of times and cover enough space to find himself close to the basket. Defensively he’s long and uses that to block shots and pursue rebounds at their peak.
