OHSAA Division I Rankings 12-26-21
The high school basketball season is about a month old so now is the perfect time to unveil the first mid-season rankings of the season for each division. This article will break down Division I with a top 10 and honorable mention.
- Centerville (5-0) Centerville is the clear top team in the state, they’ve looked dominant in early season action and have a schedule packed with nationally ranked teams.
- Gahanna (7-0) Gahanna is clearly the number two team in the state right now. They’ve been dominant in every game and have some big games coming up against some northeast Ohio powers.
- Brush (6-1) A tough loss on the road to St Edward is the only loss on Brush’s resume so far. The Arcs have a ton of size and talent across the board.
- Pickerington Central (7-1) The Tigers took an upset at the hands of Newark at home but have responded with dominant victories over town rival Pick North and out of area teams like Dayton Dunbar and Mentor.
- Sycamore (6-0) The last unbeaten in the GMC, Sycamore handled Lakota East in their marquee battle of the season. We’ll see how their two contests with Fairfield unfold.
- St Edward (5-2) Ed’s hung with nationally ranked DeMatha for multiple overtimes then beat Brush at home. Unfortunately for the Eagles, they dropped a stunner to Reynoldsburg which dropped them down a few spots.
- Elder (8-1) After a season opening loss to Indiana powerhouse Carmel, Elder has been dominant. They are one of the top 3-point shooting teams in the state.
- St Xavier (5-0) A big time victory over Fairfield puts St X in the top 10, the GCL-South is loaded once again.
- Fairfield (8-1) Despite a loss to St X, I still have Fairfield in the top 10 due to victories over Richmond Heights and Huber Heights Wayne.
- Lima Sr (5-1) A loss to Mansfield Senior without a few key players hurts, but big-time victories over teams like Sylvania Northview and Findlay put Lima Sr at the top of NW Ohio.
Honorable mention (by region) Westerville South (7-0) Pickerington North (6-1) Upper Arlington (7-0) Hilliard Davidson (6-1) Newark (6-2)
Perrysburg (7-1) Toledo St John’s (5-2) Lakota East (5-1) Walnut Hills (7-1) Turpin (6-0) Moeller (5-2) Kettering Fairmont (6-1) Huber Heights Wayne (6-2)
