Weddington High
Weddington High finds itself at the 4A level looking to make a splash after winning the NCHSAA 3A state title in 2020-21 led by unsigned seniors Chase Lowe Chase Lowe 6'4" | SF Weddington | 2022 State NC , Kyle Frazier Kyle Frazier 6'3" | SG Weddington | 2022 State NC and AJ Cook AJ Cook 5'10" | SG Weddington | 2022 State NC . Lowe opened the season with 27 points, 13 rebounds (7 offensive), three steals and a block while Frazier had a double-double of his own with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Cook went for 11 points, four rebounds and three assists in the victory. They’re a seasoned bunch with a ton of experience returning from a season ago and each brings their own skillset to the rotation. Lowe sets the tone with his ability to affect the game on both ends, Frazier follows his lead while Cook shows his prowess as a shooter on the perimeter. They’re certainly a contender with unsigned senior talent on display.
South Mecklenburg High
South Mecklenburg is just 3-1 on the young season but they’ve got a deep and talented group led by senior guard Jacob Newman Jacob Newman 6'0" | PG South Mecklenburg | 2022 State NC , junior Sincere Rasul and sophomores Peter Moye Peter Moye 6'3" | SG South Mecklenburg | 2024 State NC and Bishop Boswell Bishop Boswell 6'4" | PG Myers Park | 2024 State #68 Nation NC . Newman does well to run the show and get his playmakers like Moye and Boswell in position while Rasul has shown he’s not afraid to create his own offense off the bounce. They’ve got a well-balanced attack that’s seen them already defeat Cannon School and fall by just four points to NCISAA 4A power Greensboro Day School. Look for them to make some noise when the state playoffs start.
JL Chambers High
Antoine Piper Antoine Piper 6'4" | SF JL Chambers | 2022 State NC has emerged as an unsigned senior to keep an eye on given his ability to guard the opposing team’s best team then find his shot on the offensive end to make things happen when he’s on the floor. He’s a 6-foot-4 prospect to keep an eye on along with sharpshooting guard Jaylen Curry Jaylen Curry 6'1" | PG Calvary Christian | 2023 State #109 Nation FL and Daniel Sanford Daniel Sanford 6'8" | PF JL Chambers | 2022 State NC (South Carolina). Curry is coming off a productive summer with USA Basketball with plenty to prove as the top prospect in the 2023 class. Sanford has already committed to SEC basketball’s South Carolina but he’s ready to show his growth as more than a presence in the paint. 2025 Nick Hailey Nick Hailey 6'6" | SG Providence Day | 2025 State NC is a young name to watch as well with his ability to defend, shoot the ball and utilize his athleticism.
North Mecklenburg High
North Mecklenburg has largely picked up where they left off in 2020-21 with seniors Jordan Crawford Jordan Crawford 6'2" | PG North Mecklenburg | 2022 State NC (College of Charleston) and Davion Cunningham Davion Cunningham 6'1" | CG North Mecklenberg | 2022 State NC (Offers: Merrimack, Western Carolina & Robert Morris) leading the way while some young prospects are already making name for themselves. Isaiah Evans Isaiah Evans 6'6" | SG North Mecklenburg | 2024 State #17 Nation NC is one name to know for this squad in the 2024 class. He’s already got a 42-point, 10-rebound, 4-block performance under his belt against Charlotte Country Day School. Christian Foy Christian Foy 6'6" | PF North Mecklenburg | 2024 NC is another sophomore prospect at 6-foot-6 to keep an eye on. He put up 19 points and 10 rebounds in their recent victory over Rocky River High. They’re a top team once again out of the Charlotte area to keep an eye on.
Wakefield High
2023 guard Elijah Preddy has the Wakefield Wolverines has his squad off to a 3-0 start in 2021-22. He’s an electric guard that can score and make plays for others in a variety of ways. He’s posting 14.0 ppg, 5.0 apg, 4.7 rpg and 3.7 spg so far through three games. Zack Weed is an emerging name to know in their rotation as well. He’s posted 12.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg and 1.0 bpg. Jaxon Brown Jaxon Brown 6'0" | CG Wakefield | 2022 State NC is another guard to keep an eye on for them while Nakhi Benjamin Nakhi Benjamin 6'2" | CG Wakefield | 2023 State NC is one to watch on the wing.
