Tyson Skalecki Tyson Skalecki 6'5" | SF Union Grove H.S. | 2022 WI (6’6 2022 F, Union Grove)- Indian Trail did a good job of limiting Tyson’s looks from three as he shoots it over 40% from deep, but he kept finding other ways to contribute. Defensively he had 3 or 4 blocks, including stopping a 6’8 forward right at the rim coming in from help-side position. That showed me a type of athleticism that I wasn’t previously aware of in Tyson. Since he wasn’t able to get space on the perimeter, Tyson showed some physicality down low in establishing good position on the block. That effort combined with some off-ball cuts allowed for him to get a handful of good looks at the rim. Finished with a team high 14 points on 5-9 shooting in the win for UG.
JR Lukenbill (6’4 2023 W, Burlington)- Still early, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if JR wins the SLC player of the year award next season as a senior. He’s such a versatile piece, and as an athletic 6’4 wing, he can cause major problems for the opposition. JR saw time running the point for his team, while on the other end he guarded just about every position. He’s more explosive than he was last season, and that led to some tough finishes in transition, and he was also a threat cutting backdoor for some lob passes. There’s a type of trust that his team and coaches have in him with the ball, as he always seems to make the right play, whether it’s getting to the rim to score, swinging it around to rotate the defense, or getting into the paint before finding an open shooter. There isn’t much that JR can’t do on the floor, and that led to 15 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Kenosha Tremper.
Caiden Lecce Caiden Lecce 6'0" | CG Minneapolis Southwest | 2022 State WI (5’11 2022 PG, Kenosha St. Joseph)- In the win for St. Joes, it was Caiden Lecce Caiden Lecce 6'0" | CG Minneapolis Southwest | 2022 State WI providing the offensive spark. He’s so quick up and down the floor, and on multiple occasions that led to him getting easy lay-ups in transition. One of the quicker defenders you’ll find in the state, he’s a pest that never stops applying ball pressure, and helped limit a talented Bradford guard duo in scoring. Lecce knocked down a couple of threes, and even scrapped for some offensive rebounds that led to big momentum buckets for his team. Finished with 18 points in a win over Kenosha Bradford.
Bryce Wallace (6’8 2022 F, Kenosha Indian Trail)- Now listed at 6’8, Bryce is an incredibly long forward with athleticism that makes him an intriguing player moving forward. Really impressed me with his effort on the glass, as he was pulling in boards on both ends of the floor. On the offensive end he did a nice job of keeping the ball high when guards tried to come swiping, and he finished well through contact. Also showed some potential putting the ball on the floor to get to the rim, rather than only relying on his speed up the floor or off-ball cuts. Really like his ability to switch on to smaller players defensively while using his length inside as a rim protector.
Keviyon Price (6’5 2022 F, Kenosha Bradford)- Bradford didn’t have their best game this season, but I really like what Keviyon showed down low. He has solid footwork in the post to get guys in the air or gain an angle to pivot while pinning his man on his shoulder for a good look. One thing that stands out is how Keviyon never goes up off-balanced. Even through contact he does a nice job of getting both of his feet set before powering up to score. Defensively he can guard a bit bigger than his size, and does well moving his feet to get into position to contest/block shots.
Antonio Moyao (5’10 2023 G, Shoreland Lutheran)- One of the new names to takeaway from the event was Antonio Moyao. Shoreland lost two of the top scorers in program history to graduation, and Antonio is one of the players stepping up. Didn’t play much in the blowout win, but showed a nice feel for the game running the point. Could stop and pull-up for a jumper or blow by his man to get to the rim using his change of pace. When he got into the paint he kept his eyes scanning the floor and dished out a few assists. Finished with a team high 10 points in a win over Kenosha Reuther.
Connor Roffers Connor Roffers 6'5" | SF Burlington | 2024 State WI (6’4 2024 G, Burlington)- Connor put up 14 points in Burlington’s win over Tremper, showing a composed offensive game that allows him to put up points with efficiency. He didn’t force anything, and I really liked his ability to dribble into a post-up, as he often has the size advantage on his matchup. Once there he can elevate and score with a turnaround jumper, and he also displayed the vision to hit cutting teammates. He’s a gifted shooter as well, and his high release point makes it difficult for opposing guards to alter his shot.
